So I was on the way to work today, didn't do anything unusual. I live in Marlyand and Commute to DC so pretty heavy traffic. I looked down at my dash and saw the oil light flash...

Becamse nervous was about to pull over.... then drove another few minutes and didn't come back on.... drove the whole rest of the way to work (another 20 minutes or so) and no sign of any light.

I did an oil change about a month ago and checked my oil levels last week and everything looked fine.

Probably nothing to worry about and just a false alarm but I thought I'd ask.... Thoughts?

Yea oil level is fine. Although with our dipsticks it's impossible to tell. Temperature of the car looks normal.

I did a quick search and found this:

Engine oil pressure warning light
This light warns of low engine oil pressure.
If the light flickers or comes on during
normal driving, pull off the road in a
safe area, stop the engine immediately
and call an INFINITI dealer or other authorized
repair shop.
The engine oil pressure warning light is
not designed to indicate a low oil level.
Use the dipstick to check the oil level. See
ÂŞEngine oilÂş in the ÂŞ8. Maintenance and
do-it-yourselfÂş section.
Running the engine with the engine oil pressure
warning light on could cause serious
damage to the engine almost immediately.
Such damage is not covered by warranty.
Turn off the engine as soon as it is safe to do
so.

Sigh.... this is not sounding good.

I had a similar problem with my Jeep a few months back. My Oil pressure gauge randomly shot all the way up. From all the research that I had done - a spike in oil pressure probably means the gauge is wrong, or the oil pressure sending unit is bad (the latter is what was wrong with my Jeep and fortunately only cost $80 to fix). A sudden drop in oil pressure typically means worn engine bearings and/or other internal parts. It is more common in higher mileage vehicles, but that doesn't mean it can't happen in newer vehicles. I would recommend having it checked out ASAP - especially if its under warranty.

Shoulda bought the 335i coupe a few months back instead of repairing the g...

Sigh....

Well, I'm leaving work here soon if it comes on i'll pull over. Otherwise I'll drive home and then check levels and such again.

Anyone on here think it's possible it was just a fluke? Came on once...

I will admit... my friend just bought an S2k about a month ago and it's his first stick shift car so I've been rippin the car around with him quite a bit....

Point well taken. At some point in my life I intend on building my own car. Just find a body from a junkyard and start from there. But for now my life is consumed by things other than cars...

Anywho... I think I need to start by resetting the ECU and the warm air tb reset or whatever it is called.. I didn't notice the problem at all driving but after my recent problems with spark plug change and CAT change I noticed the following RPM issue:

When I rev the engine, as the rpm decline it will sometimes drop below 500 rpm's for less than a second and then come back up to normal. The oil light flashed once yesterday while happening and I noticed this is when it came on.

Should ECU reset and the other learning reset (can't remember the proper name for it now) take care of this issue or is there potentially a bigger problem?
