Funny that you guys bring this subject up. I've seen a guy with a '04 G coupe that took out the clock and put in a bright amber bulb the size of the hole in it's place. He's got it wired as the shift light. Well, needless to say when he needs to shift the entire cabin is lit up in bright amber. So you either have to be blind or an idiot to miss you shift. Personally, I thought that his setup made the car look a bit cheap, but that's just my opinion.

Actually Tag does make a digital quartz wrist watch. Remember though quartz is the most acturate way of measuring and keeping time. It's the millions spent of marketing by Swiss watch manufacturers that have brought back that portion of the industry from the brink of bankruptcy. IMO, they have done one helluva job as there are plenty of people, me inculded, who spend thousands on a analog, better known as manual movement in the watch industry, wrist watches. Why do people "think" manual movements are "better"? Again, this is primarily in the marketing, but it's because it's more complicated to design and manufacture. Quartz/digital time pieces are relatively easy to deisgn and make comprising of 1/10 of the parts required to make a manual watch function. So you're actually paying for the name/marketing budget/complication of movement/innovation/and of course history/craftmanship/quality rather than what really keeps time better.

On a side note though, all digital/quartz movement require an outside power source, i.e. bat. or electricity. As opposed to manual movements that power themselves by you winding it, or via the wearer's movement.
^^true. Also, the most accurate watches in the world (linked to the atomic clock) are digital. ^_^

I have a weakness for nice watches. I have a Tag, and Esq, a Klaus Kobec, a Dunhill, a Baume & Mercier, a Concord and a Cartier tank, nothing really fancy like a Rolex, but some nice pieces I have collected over the years, and a few that were gifts. The clock in the G is not all that bad, in fact, I think it's kind of classy as well. And mine has kept perfect time for nearly 3 years now.

Making sure your lights in the clock are not burned out is a plus. After I replaced the one, I tried it out tonight and it made a big difference. Also, I replaced my security red light with a bright blue one, when I got home tonight, I bout shit my pants, as half the garage lit up blue, including my whole car. That'll show anyone not to Ef with my car when I go to New Orleans tomorrow.

Hey Mike, I think we could probably chat about wrist watches over a case of beer. I also am a fan a wrist watches. Well, I used to be fanatic of them until I had to let go that addiction. I used to have over 60 watches in my personal collection and several winders. These days I only keep six to seven around so I don't break the bank. Nice to meet a fellow wrist watch fan.

To understand the problem we are having with analog clocks, we must first look at the word analog itself. Analog, from the Scandinavian word analoge, which means, not digital. To look at the problem further, we should break down this word. We then have anal, and og. The first word means where you take a deuce from, and you obviously know what og means. Coincidence? I think not.

it looks out of place. some may like it, but it stood out for me. that clock belongs on a 9k car...

just my opinion.

Still think analog clocks belong in a 9000 dollar car?

i ran in to this guy i went to highschool with who does jewellery, i asked him about the clock and he said hed make a bezel to go around it and put some glow hands and crystal bits for where the number lines are. i want it to look like the m clock, he said its no problem. i got the watch disease to, got about 10

It's taken me a long time to collect those watches and most are in my safe, but I acually had to buy a moving case for them as I don't wear each often enough to keep the self-winding ones wound. It's an expensive hobby! Zoomers: I am always looking as well for new unique ones. That Brietling in the Bentley does make a good point!

hell yea... personally i like the clock in my G... most other companies, high end ones dont really use fancy looking watches.... the clock on my dads benz looks like something from k-mart i mean its just there to look classy... analog clocks are specifically still around because they are classy... personally i love watches... and have becomes sort of addicted to collecting them myself.. but yea i know what these guys are talking about... took me all summer last year to save up $1200 to get my Movado which i love... my dad just got a Presidential Rolex too and man im in love with that thing.. but i mean each to his own... personally i like the clock and wouldnt change it.

Here is a question.... a $500 - $5000 watch (yes the kind that goes on your wrist) is going to be Analog!

The digital ones are usually $5 - $200

so.... by this logic, I belive that an Analog clock is considered more classy than a digital clock.

I like it, and I get positive comments about it when people get in the car. (unless they can't read analog clocks and then ... they just keep their mouths shut :) )

But hell - what ever tickles your pickle. . .

+1 i think the analog looks sweet, expecially on the 05s with its new oval shape. You guys seen the bentleys with the breitling clocks? common!

Again, the reason most people "think/believe" that analog/manual time pieces are more sophisticated/superior is because the Swiss watch conglomerate has done a "great" job at marketing. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually a huge fan of Swiss time pieces, but here's the truth to the matter. Would you want a more complicated time piece or one that keeps time better? Well, after the Swiss watch manufacturers got done with their expensive marketing pitch for the past 20 years it would seem that most prefer the more "complicated" over the more precise. Remeber quartz is a far more superior method of keeping "accurate" time. It's a bit ironic that Swiss watch manufacturers are forced to keep improving their movements and add more jewels or precious metals to justify their incredible prices. This is a vicious cycle they've created with their own marketing schemes. It's been said that without the presence of precoius jems and metals no watch, no matter the complication of movement, should cost more than $1,000.00.

OK, let me add this part. No watch should cost more than $1K with regards to what I stated above. Other than minute repeaters and trubillon movement time pieces. There's a Blapanc (sp?) that goes for $1.5 million. Yes, it retails for $1.5 million and it doesn't even have any diamonds on it. It actually looks very plain. Case is made of 18K white gold and no diamonds anywhere. Go figure right?
