I'm about 95% sure I'm going to be a G35C 6mt owner tomorrow. I just need to think about it, and of course get the wife on board. :D

With that said, the winter months here in Chicago can be brutal as some of you know. Exploring tirerack's website, they have 17" rims available for the G35C 6mt. Will these rims fit over the Brembos? I hope I don't have to go to an 18", as the price goes up significantly.

Anyone here running a 17" rim/tire setup on their 6mt?

I'll be sure to post MUCH more tomorrow if I decided to get on the G35C bandwagon!

Thanks!

Scrib, are you getting a base coupe with the 17" fatory rims? If you get that, all you need to worry is about winter tires, not rims and tires. I think VQ has a base coupe on order and he can enlighten you on what types of tire choices are available on those...

No, I'm going to be getting the 6mt, which will have the 18" (summer) and the giant Brembos. Evidently, if tirerack lists the rim with the particular car they guarentee it'll fit.

I'd like a 17" winter rim/tire setup as the cost goes up quite a bit even for CHEAP 18"s.

So what are you planning to do with the 18's that come with the sport package? [:D]

I assume you want to do the same thing with your 18's as I want. In the winter, rather than swaping off the summer tires (and risking damage to the rims), actually just swap off the whole 18 rim and tire and replace with an 17" with winter/all seasons. additionally the increased sidewall width and and will protect against the rock salt used in the snow.

"Evidently, if tirerack lists the rim with the particular car they guarentee it'll fit."[boink]

So==what's up? It's 2 days past your first post of the 25th==are you gonna buy a 6mtCoupe?[^]

Not sure 17" winter wheel/tire setup to replace 18" summer wheel/tire will work, so I won't trade ignorance on the subject, but here's a suggestion. Do yourself a favor: don't rely on "tirerack-listing-it-on-their-website-therefore-it-must-fit". Talk to them. And if you feel the salesperson you're talking to doesn't know that much, make certain to ask for someone who does. Push comes to shove, ask for Mike Joines. He's really busy, but he knows.

Tirerack really knows its beans, but you need to talk with them. Good luck and plz post the results of your conversation for the rest of us! [:D]

OK... Just talked to tirerack. They have about 6 different 17" rims that will fit over the Brembos. So we're all good to go!!! [boink]

The specialist I talked to JUST took an order for the same car and answered the SAME questions I was asking. Now what are the odds on that heppening?

I went with a decent looking alloy rim (Fox 5); cheap but will look decent. My buddy has them on this BMW and the Blizzak winter tires. It was something like $1146, mounted, balanced, taxes and shipped to my door.

NOT BAD for a dedicated winter rim/tire setup. 18" winter tires cost about $200/tire and you'd have to unmount the summer tires, mount the winter tires and pay for thise every time. At least with this, you can do all the work yourself.
