Disclaimer: I may be completely off on this, so correct me if I'm wrong...
But I think the LSD is passive. It's just a mechanical way of transferring power to the non-slipping wheel. See auto.howstuffworks.com for a great explanation.
The traction control is an active system that detects slipping wheels and brakes or throttles back to re-attain grip.
