My stereo comes on but very rarely works. Culprit is most likely the bose amp.
I'm going to a salvage yard tomorrow to see if they have any amps there I can throw in meanwhile.
I figured I could replace the head unit and just throw out the amp
Don't know.. I live in Canada and the metra dash kit costs nearly $400
I found a video of some kids hooking up a single din through the glove box. I ordered a harness, tried doing this myself, and the unit I have comes on but no sound still.
Is this cause the factory amp doesn't work..? Is it required to run the speakers..? I have them connected to my head unit.
Not sure what to do. At this point I want to run all new shit. But if I can avoid dropping 400 on that damn kit that would be nice.
I'm having trouble finding info on the forums and youtube..
I'm guessing even if I did get the kit it wouldn't work right now seeing as the current set up isn't working?
So what do I do?
Buy a new aftermarket 4 channel? If I'm gonna do that I need new speakers. I'd like to do this eventually. I already have a pair..
I just don't know where to start and how to make sense of it. Why aren't I getting sound bypassing the stock head unit.. Doesn't it have an amp built in to run speakers

I had a similar experience w/ my 03 g35 sedan in 2009. The system may be Bose, but the
head unit is made by Clarion and is not sound (my PC for cheap JUNK!).

Head unit can (will?) fail when the screw actuator for the 6 disc changer bottoms out into the power board - shorting out the power board. I had intermittent failures - eventually total failure and it took out the entire center stack.

I used the Nico Club connection, pulled the head unit and sent it off to California for repair. $225 later I'm back in business. I no longer play CDs in my G (per the advice of the repair shop).

My suggestion for anyone w/ the Clarion (aka OEM) head unit (the display is discolored (orange) – they didn't use sufficient UV inhibitor in the plastic – but there are no outward indications of the head unit's actual Clarion origin) is to never play CDs in your G. I might have saved $225 if I'd followed that advice when my unit was in the intermittent failure stage. Single CDs might be ok. multiple CDs in the system increase the loads on the actuator(s) and the amount of damage to the power board.

Pre-covid, a Double DIN adapter was about $200 - just the adapter - no head unit.

I posted a more detailed response on the Nico site a few years back. Apologies for not saving a copy.

I hope this helps, YMMV! I'm not here for debate. These are my experiences and my suggestions. YMMV.

Cheers,
