If any G35 driver out there is looking for another spot to put their radar detector other than that annoying dash mount read this:

I'm using the power wires that connect to the rearview mirror. I've spliced the wires hooked up to the detector and connected them to 2 of the 3 wires connecting to the mirror(they're meant to stop the glare from headlights at night and for opening garages). Then I connected the mirror again afterwards so it still works. Its fairly simple, I did it by trial and error for 3 minutes and finally got it. I blew the fuse to the clock in the meantime(tripped a wire) but infiniti knew some crazy f*** would be doing this procedure so they were nice enough to supply a spare fuse. Good Luck! Just a word of advice, no matter what you get. The laser detection feature is pretty much to let you know you've been busted. I got nailed the other day in heavy traffic across 4 lanes by a cop standing outside his car with a laser. My Escort 8500 never even went off. I asked him to show me his radar (it's the law here in TX that you ask and they show) then he showed me how slow the detector picked it up. From 3 feet away, he pulled the trigger and it took my detector a good 2 seconds to alert me. He got me at 74 in a 60. What really sucks is the flow of traffic was right at 70. I was going just a tad faster (can't help it in my G). Defensive Driving, here I come again (for the 9th time). [banghead]

That's why i'm looking at the K40. Read up on their site and you'll notice that it isn't just a laser detector. It actually passively fucks up the laser signal and prevents it from getting a read. It's also hidden in the car so you can't see it and it's invisible to detector detectors.

The only indication is two red LEDs on the instrument panel, one for front and one for rear along with an audible signal.

I've seen it and read all about it. I'm just hoping they drop the price a bit. $1500 is a bit too much when you consider only 1 out of every 15 or so cops here in Houston have the laser as opposed to the Ka. Now if it scrambled or blocked all signals, I might consider dropping the g and a half.

I was quoted $1300 installed. That last word is the kicker. By my mind, I'm paying for a stealth install which has been the major detractor for me on all the other units. I don't want to see some ugly radar detector in my car. This thing mounts the modules in the bumpers and places two little LEDs on the console which makes it very discrete.

Very nice mod. The detector is out of sight, and there's no unsightly or telltale wires. I don't have a G yet, but I do have a Valentine One that I will want to move from my Z28 to a G. On the Z28, I snuggled the wires behind a decorative "A" pillar cover, and then behind the headliner. It's OK, but your solution is much cleaner. Do you recall the colors of the wires you spliced into? Too bad car manufactures don't provide an auxiliary power outlet where it's needed.

oh my god - i am going to do the same to my 1.8 T jetta.. my super hot boyfriend has a g35 6mt and he's loving every minute of it! he even has the metal driving pedals in his!

I would like to try hooking my V1 up to the mirror wires. What colors did you use. Which is the hot, ground, etc.?

just splice away and do it by trial and error. It took me literally 2 minutes to figure out the hot, i believe its purple. If you cant figure it out write back and i will undo the electrical tape and find out for you. good luck

I have an escort so my phone line connector may be different but I would assume there is a wire in it the would use the lead wire from the mirror. Its really not that hard, the only hard part is splicing the wires, then find which wire turns the V1 on. Make sure the key is in the on position, it took me a couple of stressful minutes until I noticed it wasn't.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead because I just finished hooking my radar detector up to my mirror. I blew a fuse because I let two bare wires touch, but that was no big deal. It was pretty easy.

I am thinking about getting a new detector.. My Escort Passport 7500 is not cutting it anymore.. I want to hard wire it, using the existing wires in the mirror is a great idea.. I don't use the garage opener feature anyway..
I am gonna get the new Escort Passport 8500XP..
Would not recommend valentine 1 .. They have not updated their product for many years.. while the competition has cought on while smaller cheaper devices.
As for the K40, I never heard of it.. not even in any comparison test in any magazine.. Would not trust something like that just because it is hidden or
looks good.
Do you guys know if the Escort would fit over the mirror ??

Sav505,I remember popping a fuse too at the time. Thank god for the spares readily available.

I was hoping to sell my passport 8500 on ebay and then buy a V1 because I like the sounds a lot better instead of the annoying sounds of escort. But they are a lot of money too so I may just chill with what I got and save the much needed money.

The escort will not fit over your mirror in a coupe. It will in a sedan though. In my coupe, I place it just to the left and above the mirror. The only issue is that it gets in the way of the sun visor a little.

I have the Escourt 8500xp as well. Looked at all the other brands including V1, and it appears that the Escourt has the same features plus pop detection over V1. V1 has the nice arrows but hey I don't want to have to look at something even bigger and uglier that the V1.

Ok I'm not really sure who makes this piece but I think it is called a Z3 or something. It is a Laser scrambler. Supposedly is able to work with the Escort (plugs into or something) The cost is around $300 for the scrambler. I saw one at Best Buy the other day but was in a hurry to read more about it.

Right now I mount mine below the mirror using the suction cups and the supplied cord. I'll probably do a hard wire when I have a chance.
