Ok, so I know the advantages of the Escort X50 vs. the Escort Cordless Solo S2, but are the any real advantages between the $399 Valentine One vs. the $299 Escort X50 that would be worth the extra $100? Better guarantee or warranty between one or the other?

I like the functionality of the Valentine One, but damn, IMO it's gawd awful ugly looking - it looks like the cell phones from the 1980s (big and boxy). Anybody know if they plan to change the appearance of this radar detector in the near future?

Also, looks like Escort now sells a blue display X50 for $339 and a red display X50 for $299 now too.

I was debating between the 2 myself. What I learned is that the one feature that stands out on the V1 is it's ability to tell you the direction that the cop may be sitting. --- at the same time I heard that it is not very accurate or dependable. it also gives you a lot of false positives. Goes off when there is no cop.

The X50 has a better design, I think a better display as well, and a better error detection software as well as the auto mute feature which I absolutely LOVE. If it detects a signal and signal does not get stronger it will cut the volume output so that it does not annoy you to death.

I ended up with the X50 if you can't tell by now... The range is incredible and it has saved me for at least 3 tickets so far in about 2 month i've had it. ( one was a laser ). I have it mounted high up and to the left of my rear view mirror - it is in the way of me putting my visor all the way down but I seldom use the visor so it works well for me.

One other thing is that the X50 has a volt meter and an advanced "radar detection screen" --- this works like a "bogey counter" on the V1 radar. It tells you exactly what band it is picking up and how many "bogeys" (signals) it is picking up on each band as well as their signal strength (for each one). <== that is a great feature. say you drive by a store where there is a lot of X band -- and it picks it up... then today it also picks up a Ka band <==COP. Thats the only way to know sometimes.

The X-50 in blue is terrific. The Valentine looks cheesy, and costs more. Plus the Escort has the Smart Cord which is a great feature. No comparison between the two IMO.

I have the X50 in blue too, great little device, you really need 'em around here, has saved my butt a few times (like 120+ to 75 before seeing the cop). I have heard great things about the Valentine though....

I got the red one (X50) it blends in very well with the orange color of the gauges on the G. ofcourse I am also the only one that can see the display because of the way that I have it mounted... but I like it!

The V1 is a good radar - don't get me wrong on this... Oh and did I mention that the X-50 is made in West Chester, OH about 3 miles from where I live?!?!

I think the V1 is also made somewhere in Cincy. <= I may be wrong on that though.

thats not true i owned a V1 and i got sick of the damn thing false alarming and no smart cord with auto mute. Also WITHOUT a doubt the x50 has more range than the V1.... and dont say i dont know i owned the v1 and im not being biased

I have the Escort.

If people talk about the V1 having false alarms it must be terrible because my shit goes off all the time for no reason, especially when I'm in town.

I bought it for the 11+ hour drive from New Orleans to Charlotte; I don't even plug it in when I'm in NOLA because it goes off too much (and you can't go more then 25 mph on any road; if you do, your likely to pop a tire on the potholes).

Haha this is an age old debate. I can give you guys a few reasons to go with the V1 over the escort, however both are MORE than enough for getting out of radar traps.

Reason to get a v1:
bogey counter and arrows. it tells you where the threat is. why would you want that? well. if you pass a CVS everyday that trips up your K-band. the bogey counter reads 1 K-band ahead of you. as you pass it says "1 k-band behind". now lets say mr cop knows this will trip up every escort in Tampa - he sits there with his gun and you think its cvs - when in reality the v1 will register 2 bogeys, 1 ahead, and once u pass cvs it will continue to say 1 k band ahead (the cop) 1 k band behind (the cvs). bam - there is the primary situation where the v1 trounces the competition.

but to the original poster of this thread - please understand, this will not make you immune to traffic tickets. though you can smooth talk, bribe, or last name your way out of a citation - you cannot do any of the aforemention when you get pulled over in a laser trap. laser guns today will nail you 1 mile up the road. they have scopes like sniper rifles, and these cops do laser traps on major highways and neighborhood streets to make money/generate revenue. if you are lasered, i always say, get your license, registration, and be ready to get a ticket. there is NO way around it. no matter how good the detector, be it passport or v1, when the laser hits your car, the cop instantaneously knows how fast you are going. boom. your done. trust me.

now, you could get a laser diffuser/jammer. these actually do work - but you will spend upwards of $500 on the system alone. K40 makes a good laser defense system however its going to run you over a grand i believe (friend just got it on his m6). so in the end, i'd recommend the valentine one, however, i would recommend that you stay within 10 mph of the speed limit. at night cops cant use laser because headlights blind the scope...so FLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
