It's hideous. My biggest complaint of the car, actually. It sounds like absolute crap as one would expect from Bose. The lows aren't bad, but the highs are mutty and the mids are enemic.

I'm in the process of ripping it all out with the exception of the very slow head unit (it would totally throw off the interior to cut out the aluminum and put something else in its place). The setup I'm currently favoring though may change if I can find a local place that carries Dynaudio, Focal or Rainbow:

6.5" component MB Quart Premium
6x9 MB Quart Discus in the back deck
Disconnect the 4" speakers in the back seat
500/5 JL amp (100x2 for the fronts 25x2 for the rear deck and 250x1 for the sub)
One JL W3v2 10" sub

I'm going to have a local place that caters to high end customers remove the spair compartment and fiber glass in an enclosure for the sub and the amp. I'll lose the spair but it will look perfectly stock. With labor costs (which are extreme for this level of quality), the grand total is just under $4500.

I'll let you guys know what the result is...

Wow... that sucks to hear...

Today i was thinking about ...and infiniti should have made something like a pair of 2 way component in front as well as the back, and stock sub or something...i thought lows would be terrible. but i guess it the other way around ..huh..?

Components in the back would destroy the sound stage. Instead of hearing a virtual stage on which the musicians are performing in front of you as is intended by the recording engineer, you'd hear the music coming from all over which isn't ideal. A GOOD set of components up front with 6x9's in the rear for filling in the image a bit and a couple 8's or a single 10 would have been fantastic, married to a good amplifier.

Unfortunately, people still aren't aware of how crappy Bose is and the name sells to the uninformed.

Ya...makes sense...but i guess thats what happens when they cut corners to make a car a bit cheaper...

I've heard stock systems in cheaper cars that sound far better than this. My guess is that it was more of a marketing decision. A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that Bose makes good hardware, which is why they're in Audi, Acura and Honda (I think).

One of my roommate's mom has a Toyota SUV that sounds fantastic with the JBL system. I was absolutely floored that it was stock.

Does the head unit change if you go with the un-premium package containing the cheapy Clarion 120-watt sound system?

I don't believe so. It's at least cosmetically identical.

I heard the Clarion yesterday on a bare sedan. No comparison.

Either way, it's Clarion and Bose. I think the only difference is the added two speakers and a larger amp.

Is that it? Whoa! I guess with most cars it's better to get the base models since the sound and seating are usually the two deferring factors, but with the G you get allot more premium in your package for your penny. A few are home link dimming rear view, rear facing A/C ducts, rear reclinining seats, etc. These are sedan luxuries of course, but I'm sure premium coupes also differ from base ones with their own amenities...

I dont understand how the you (SEMI) can say all BOSE systems are bad. Maybe they are just bad in this Infiniti, cuz in my friends CLK430 his BOSE system is unbelievable, his rear speakers littleraly vibrate the car making you feel as though there is a 10" sub back there. Also my dads CL Type S doesn't sound so bad i just wish it had more base to it. But dam i wish they would be better than what i have heard alot of people talking about them, I will just have to hear them for my self, also SEMI have u let them break in or do they still sound bad? Oh well if i have to i will replace them with Alpine or Infinity speakers later on, but who knows.

I've probably just been exposed to far better equipment than you.

And we all know loud thumping bass is the cornerstone of good music production...

That would probably be a good idea. It sounds like Bose isn't a problem to you so you may find them fine. I personally appreciate a speaker than can accurately reproduce its source, which Bose can't.

Break in is an invention of A/V marketers to limit returns. Your tweeters have two moving parts that vibrate tens of thousands of times in the first second they're used. You can't get any more broken in than that.

Semi
