Is the legendary G series gone? wtf is a Q60?

So I was in concord the other night with my friend and just for the hell of it since we were right around the corner I walked over the the infiniti dealership to browse the lot. It was about 8:30pm so no sales reps around to hound us. I saw alot of what I was sure were G37s...but when I got closer and walked around the back of them.....they all said Q60 and then the Q60s for the sport model. Even a Q60 IPL coupe! WTF! I looked on the window at the info and they all said 3.7 L DOHC V6 , bla bla bla.... same body as G37.... its the G37, but I guess for 2014 its now a Q series.....Q60 at that.... I was disappointed. The G series is a legend, that's what makes infiniti famous. Its like ford changing the name of "mustang" to the "zebra"..... The all new Ford shelby "Zebra" 5.0!"
I dunno, my friend thought i was making too much out of it and didn't understand.....anyone else heard of this or feel a little sad about it?

It's a name change. It happens. I don't like it either (well I guess I really don't care, but I wouldn't have made the same move).
All cars are Qxx and all SUVs are QXxx

Similar to Audi's naming system.

Personally I like MBZ and BMW model names because they also indicate the engine size.

...........except the truly legendary M3 will now be called an M4 since the 4's are going to be coupes.
"M3" didn't really designate an engine size. Just that its a 3 series M car. Which hasn't changed with the M4. I meant more like 335ci - I know it's a 3 series convertible with the TT.

It was a complete fumble but with it, comes a great opportunity for us.

Maybe the recent negative comments by loyal Infiniti owners past and present, will cause the knuckleheads in marketing to re-think the plan. New owners could now get a 'kit' with their new car consisting of a Chrome Alphabet sequence to create their own model although the VIN designation will remain the official last word.

I figure the younger guys will have theirs labeled GQ
and other owners buying a car they didn't like the model name of might use IQ.

Any questioning the sense of this change could put Q/A on the lid
and football fans could use QB.

I like shopping on-line so mine will be the Infiniti QVC

:)

Both BMW and MB have swayed from this naming convention a little.

The 335 has a 3.0 engine...not a 3.5
I know, but they still give different model names for different engines.

The dumbest part is the Q60 will be the same g37 body style for 18 months. Hoping it's not AT only like the sedan

I bring up the M3 as the M3 always denoted the 3 series M which used to only be available as a coupe, until BMW bastardized it to include a four door. They now kick the coupes to the 4 series designation. If they could go back they'd probably change the M1 to a M2.

M3 & M5 you always know what they are, an M4?!!! WTF?! M1 that started everything...........we know that which is why those knuckle heads started the whole M (Z series M) and what happens if they up the performance on a 1 series? 1M?

I assume all this bs is so there is no confusion with the 5,6,7 series cars...........so what does this mean with the 1 series? They going to split those also so there is a 1 (sedan) and 2 (coupe) series?

They should have just left the 3 series as the coupe and the 4 series bring that out as the sedan.

That's a great name for a car.
Maybe a 2 door Italian roadster.
This is the BEST Geek post I have ever seen here.
I didn't realize until now that the G37 coupe will be called the Q60. Does that mean the M37 will be the Q70?
Shoulduv kept the G series. Ppl will ask "hey what do you drive?" "I drive a Q60!" Reply with "whats that?" ... just not the same esp if your a G owner.
I'm sure people had the same response when the G35 first came out

I didn't realize they had rocks that big in Florida. I mean even 14% knew the cars were being renamed.
