Believe it or not, these QX56 test utes are running around in far less camouflage their sibling, Nissan’s Pathfinder Armada, was at this point of the pre-introduction stage. And that small amount of missing fabric allows us to see many of the changes that will take the big and powerful Nissan and change it into the luxury Infiniti, challenging a string of large and high-dollar SUVs, including the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln’s Navigator and the Lexus GX470.
Although the body shell remains the same as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada, the Infiniti has unique front and rear fenders and lights, and the most aggressive Infiniti grille to date. Even the license-plate location has changed. The camouflage implies changes on the sides as well, and the Infiniti name ensures luxury amenities throughout.
The QX56 will be built in Canton, Miss., along side the new Titan and Pathfinder Armada, and will be powered by Nissan’s 300-horsepower 5.6-liter V-8. We believe the QX56 will be available in the first quarter of 2004 as an early 2005 model.
