General Motors said it will start making four brands of new minivans in 2005 — Chevrolet, Pontiac, and for the first time, Buick and Saturn, The Associated Press reported.

Specific details about cost, size and models of the new minivans were not disclosed, but GM said it will invest $150 million to retool its Doraville, Georgia assembly plant to build the new minivans.
The plant currently makes the Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana and the Oldsmobile Silhouette minivans. The new line of minivans will replace these minivans.

In related news, Ford said it will begin selling a new luxury Mercury minivan in the fall and also will redesign the Ford Windstar minivan for 2004.
