The next Ford Motor Co. automobile to contain a gasoline-electric hybrid engine will most likely be a Volvo, the automaker said recently.
Volvo owners tend to be more affluent and educated than other Ford-brand customers, said Ford group vice president for global product development Richard Parry-Jones. "I think it makes a lot of sense" to market hybrids to Volvo customers, Parry-Jones said (Norihiko Shirouzu, Wall Street Journal [subscription required], Feb. 3).
Ford said last month month it is planning to sell a hybrid model of its Escape SUV in December (Greenwire, Jan. 8). -- LM
