Does anyone know if there is a website to decode the Nissan engine block number stamped on it ? My engine block # is 084893VQ35.
The dealer parts dept. could not find how and i gave the number to Infiniti Consumer Affairs to try to find out since its a replaced shortblock for a 2006 G35 coupe revup engine. The engine block number should give me all the information on this block.

thanks

The VQ was from 02 to 07 so are you wondering of the origin like a sedan, the reg VQ or the Rev-UP ?

Bachman,

Its a 06 G35 6MT coupe, so its the rev up engine.

All i am looking for is how to decode the engine casting number. It will tell me what year the block was made, month and day , plus any other information it may show.
I know what i had when i bought the car since it was new. I have no information on this block that was replaced. This is what i want to find out.

Well, if you have no info on it I understand your interest. It could be one of three variations (maybe) and hp rating is different for the sedan the VQ and the Rev-UP motors.
Sounds like you inherited the car with the swap already done. I can't imagine a motor going in a car where the owner doesn't have 'full disclosure' to know what it is exactly.

I purchased the car new in Oct 2006. SB replaced late Oct 2012 for Rev up engine.
Since nobody knows how to decode a engine LB or SB, they also have no idea what the year and month their engines are either that were replaced.

I have never thought about it but you do bring up an interesting question. I would have thought the number might be a serial number but it might be more of a date code.

It's probably a shot in the dark but you might do a web search of the top half dozen companies that sell used motors or rebuilt motors for Infiniti. Then query those by phone or email about the numbers on the block as for what they mean or can tell you.

I'd think the correct application or for spec purposes etc... they'd have to know any variations that mean something and how to interpret it off VIN and Block #'s.

Maybe you'll get lucky with some of them knowing something on it.

I took that shot in the dark many times and the dealer did not know how to decode it.
I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and have not received any answers.
The only way to find out if the engine code is part of the cars Vin# is somebody with a original engine, write down the engine code and look to see if those letters and numbers are part of the cars Vin #.

I see what you are asking.
Show a pic of the engine block # location and I or anyone can look it up and do the comparison you ask about.

As per Nissan and Infiniti, the VIN relationship after accounting for all digits means the engine block number you list came from a car with 'C' as the 4th digit ie; VQ35. That's all. No other engine ID or details come from the VIN.
That is pretty generic info so it does not seem to be a source of help.

Yes, there are several websites that can help you decode the Nissan engine block number stamped on your vehicle. Here are a few examples: NissanPartsDeal website has a Nissan VIN decoder tool that can also decode engine block numbers. Simply enter your VIN or engine block number, and the tool will provide information about your vehicle, including the engine type and specifications. 240sx website has a comprehensive guide to decoding Nissan engine block numbers and you can read more for VIN decode there. The guide includes information on how to interpret the various characters and numbers in the block number to determine the engine type, displacement, and other specifications. It's important to note that while these websites can provide helpful information about your Nissan engine block number, they may not be able to provide a complete history of your vehicle. If you have any questions or concerns about your Nissan engine or vehicle, it's always best to consult with a qualified mechanic or Nissan dealer.
