The Scoobies seem to get a lot of positive press. Their looks have certainly improved and the boxer motor is well regarded. You could do worse.

Yeah, although I have no idea when we'll be needing to do do something, I want her to get what she likes and yet, have a list of "Running Mates" for her to look at or test drive.
I don't see either of us looking at the compact SUV or CUV markets such as the smaller Buick Encore and as much as she liked the Yukon Denali her cousin has, that's probably too much / too big.
Between a sedan like the Legacy and the Yukon, there's a lot to consider though.

No way will I show her a pic of the Jag F-Pace (but it does start at $41,000)

From the world of automotive journalists, the kindest words I have read on most CVT featured cars is a somewhat acceptable newer Subaru CVT.... "smooth , mimics an automatic trans in most diving situations
" None of the whine or build up of noise before the acceleration comes on" etc...

The Jag F Pace looks nice. It probably drives and feels nice too. $41 k starting price isn't bad.

The CVT tranny in my Sentra occasionally whines like a sewing machine but for the most part the noise is not noticeable.

The Camaro has an 8 speed auto transmission to be more like the CVT to keep the engine in the proper RPM range for fuel economy. GM and Ford are co developing a joint 10 speed automatic tranny.

I have not been in too many cars with a CVT but I suspect the sounds they makes and the lack of immediate torque make a strong psychological impression that exaggerates the lag time.
It seem so basic for these cars to have a defeat or switchable sport mode so the car can technically meet the EPA guidelines and still have user friendly performance when one wants it.
I'm guessing some higher line cars or models have that feature but not sure.

I think I could live with a CVT or get used to one pretty easy. I'm less inclined than ever to be racing around town. I enjoy a more relaxed touring type speed and I think it's easier on my nerves since this style of driving doesn't invite that competitive nature in other drivers to be cutting in and out of traffic and feeling like they have to race to the next light.

As you mention, I was thinking newer automatics are really just another version of the CVT in splitting up the drive ratio to be more efficient. I'll bet they are (for the most part) a better option as it seems software or programming can allow them to have multiple modes based on variations of driving style.

Here in relatively flat Florida, the CVT works well. I wonder how it handles mountainous areas with going up hill and engine braking downhill.

That is a good point, I really do not know.

Even with my more relaxed driving style in recent years, I'd still enjoy the hell out of a sporty growling car like your new one.
My new Car&Driver (got it yesterday) has a yellow ZL1 on the cover. It's almost certain that few cars have got the media coverage and full attention that the newer Camaro has.
Pretty cool ! I'm extra proud to be an American with the continued success of the domestic car industry !! I salute you for buying U S A

Thanks for the salute. Both your cars and my other two cars are imports.

I've been slacking over here. I've been on the Camaro forums finding things to do to it.

There is no fuse panel inside the Camaro. The battery is in the trunk so there is a fuse panel there and another under the hood.

I knew your new toy would keep you occupied for sure
Did not even think ahead to all the sources of related info you can dig up. I hope you find and settle on one or two that have the quality and content like 6mt serves us all.

Keep us in the loop on interesting mods or things you learn on that other set of wheels. I hope it's one of those cars that is so perfect as engineered (I would believe it) that there is little worthwhile doing.

There really isn't much to do to personalize this car. I tinted the Windows and replaced the gold Chevy bow ties with black ones. I may lower it a little but it doesn't really need much. I painted the engine cover. I'd like to add a subwoofer and maybe a front splitter.

Most of that sounds pretty simple which is a plus.

The car test reviews speak so highly of the handling on those, it's got to be difficult to improve on. I wonder if tire size and profile options can create an illusion of a car's sit or looking lowered ? I might have just got lucky but I"m happy with my set up.

You may want to bide your time on any suspension considerations until you have the opportunity to get a good cross section of what's out there and gets good reviews by users.
*As you know, effecting the ride, camber, handling and 'sit' of the car can have some unintended downsides if everything isn't working in harmony.

I do t really mind the way it sits right now. I'm not in a hurry to lower it.

Looks nice but it doesn't seem likely Buick would produce a sport coupe. It's not their market.
