Default 17" wheels from 04 G35 Sedan worked on my 05 G35 Coupe

I'm a newbie - just bought the car on Monday!

I'm looking to swap out the 19" stock wheels and tires for the winter
(2005 G35 6MT w/Brembos)

Looking for 17" wheels and tires.

Heard horror stories about wheels not fitting around the brakes when they were supposed to.

Any advice or anyone selling 17's that they know will fit the car?

They're only for winter so slightly used is OK.

Thanks!

first off, congrats on your car, and welcome to 6mt

i am not too familiar with the wheels... but i will try to point you in the right direction.

i tried doing a quick search on ebay, and basically came up with nothing they only sell the bigger rims, and if you do find the 17 inch ones, they're selling ONE rim.

very few people try to sell their wheels on this site, so perhaps you should try to look into www.everythingg35.com

im not too sure, but i dont think the 05's will have problems with rims fitting because they do not bring the overly large brembo brakes that were the problem in the previous models... but you said yours BRINGS brembos???? are you sure?

try to post this in the totally off topic section, or the coupe section in order to get a better response. very few members search the wheels part of the fourm.

good luck!

Default Thank you!!!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm forever indebted to the friend of mine that pressured me into driving the G35. I was sure I wanted a BMW!

Thanks for the tip - I will post this in the other forum section and check out everythingg35.com, awesome resource!

I'm just scared about the Brembos, and yes, I do have them. Weird, I didn't know they discontinued them. Hm... will have to triple check that tonight.

Thanks again for the advice!

Congrats on the car and welcome to 6MT.

Like Smoke said, the 05s didn't come with Brembo brakes.

If you have the beautiful , shiny , gold calipers (like in my avatar), than your G is not an 05. Unless, of course, the previous owner (assuming you bought it used) upgraded the brakes to Brembos .

Default I forgot to update - brembos were figment of my imagination

I have no idea how I got that idea - actually I think it was just from an article I read on this site. Must have assumed it was more recent than it was.

Anyway, I don't have the Brembos. I'm still reading all sorts of accounts of 17" wheels not fitting the 05 or 06's though.

I'm looking at 17" or 18" stock 2004 Infiniti G35 rims on e-bay.

Does anyone have any "proof" or expertise on whether or not they will work with the 05 G35? Without brembos

j/p.....search the forums for winter wheels and you will find many drivers using the 17"-18" from sedans and AT coupes as their winter set up.

Default Nobody sounds too sure!

Your words are definitely good enough for me!! It's just that nobody sounds real certain and I keep reading conflicting "stories" posted here and g3driver.com.

I'd just love to hear someone say that they've successfully installed either factory 17" or factory 18" on the 2005 that came with 19" Somehow I must be searching for the wrong keywords because I didn't find accounts of people using 17s or 18s from sedans! Thanks, that helps a lot.

I've never switched out wheel sizes on a car before - the whole thing kind of makes me nervous (especially since I just got the car last week). I just don't want to *hurt* the car! And the dealer telling me not to change wheel sizes isn't helping!

I just don't imagine 19" snow tires would even compare to 17" or 18" snow tires. And switching out wheels means I'll keep my 19" rims nicer.

there is no reason for 17" (coupe) rims not to fit an 05 G35. the wheel-well space is the same, the bolts holding the wheels are the same. now that we established that you misundestood the whole brembo's deal, you have even more space to work with.

in reality, the only reason i could possibly think of to why 17" rims wont fit is because they tried swapping in sedan rims (the 5 spolks). www.g35driver.com has a lot of great advice, but a lot of people that dont know what the heck they're talking about...

anyways, is that sure enough for ya?

happy thanksgiving

i don't know, i just got off the phone with tirerack and spoke with the wheel tech in the shop (not the sales person). guy swears there are problems with many of the 17's --something about caliper clearance to rim just not enough space. he acknowledge that is not in regards to the brembo brakes too.

spoke with a local tire dealer, who also called tire rack and got similar story.

spoke with my dealer and they are offering ronal r41's in 17's. too bad its an ugly rim for the price

wish i could get the straight scoop... from a reallife '05 owner with 17's other than factory -- like asa's, kosei, etc..

Default The 17" wheels from 03 sedan worked on my 04 coupe!

I bought 4 - 17" factory original wheels from someone here on this message board.

The wheels came off of a 2003 G35 Sedan. They are the 17" upgraded wheels (5 spoke).

I got Pirelli Sub-Zeros 215/55-17s all the way around.

The day before I put on the snow tires, I got stuck twice and had to be pushed. I put the snow tires on - went back to the same place I got stuck and was able to maneuver just fine!

THANK YOU all for your advice and opinions!
