I should be sleeping now but I'm very excited about something I thought of earlier this evening. I've been doing research since.
Ok, here's the scenario...
I just thought of a REALLY GREAT idea!!!
It's one of those ideas where you'd say to yourself, "Crap! Why didn't I think of that?". If I can get my idea across to the right person, without getting fucked over, I think it would pay me enough where I can fly all you fools out for the ultimate monthy G35 meet. Well, the people that I like on this board anyway.
I say that only because this particular industry made $550,000,000 in it's first year.
My question to all you bright people out there is...
How do I get my foot in the door to speak to the right person?
From a google search, I think I may have this persons contact address, but how do I get him listen to me? Do I send a proposal? Should I arrange a presentation?
What can I do to protect my idea?
For instance, say I accomplish my first step by getting my foot in the door to pitch my idea. Say that everything is said and done, he then basically tells me to take a long walk off a short cliff because he supposedly thinks my idea's shit. But the next thing you know he basically steals and takes credit for my idea.
Hopefully not to shoot myself in the foot, my idea's not something that is innovative. This one particular company pumps out this particular product ($550,000,000 of it) I just happened to think of a way to improve on it and also a better way to market it. Simply put, I honestly think that I just built a better mouse trap.
Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
p.s.
I know, 2000th post. Big fuckin' deal.
Whatevers.

like Hot Foot said ... patent it. You want that legal recourse should anything happen. When someone has a million dollar idea that's how people make money off it ... selling full or partial patent rights. Good luck on that
Tell me what it is and I'll pantent it for you and I'll take 50%? Deal? Well good luck hyung maybe you can get me a job when I get out of the air force.
Depending upon what product it is you need to register it. Either through a patent, copyright, or trademarking. Something that would ensure your idea is not stolen & used without giving you proper credit.

I just saw a TV spot on this exact thing.... but I forgot what show or channel it was on.
It said that you should consult a Registered Patent Attorney... and do your homework (make sure it hasn't been done or you're not stealing an idea), document your ideas, take pictures (if applicable), and assemble all of it in a presentable manner to show to the Attorney.
Good luck with your plan, Donny.... I hope it works out for your benefit!

Keep in mind that if it is a product that can be patented, you will need to submit plans and specs for the product. Be general enough so that no one can change a tiny portion of it and come up with a completely different product that does the same thing.
If someone already has patented (or patent is pending) the idea, the patent office will notify you of the overlap.

Definitely make sure you patent it as soon as possible.
Jaylin is right. I looked into patenting serveral idea's of mine, and i found out it takes close to TWO YEARS to get your patent.
Go here... http://www.uspto.gov/ it's the United States Patent and Trademark Office. LOADS of useful information. You can search other patents to see if your idea has already been taken. It'll also give you an idea of how much getting a patent costs.

I know a friend that got a patent awhile back and he said it took alittle over a year and half to get the patent back. That is why most things you see say patent pending. As long as you submit the paperwork for your patent first someone can't come along and copy you while your patent is still pending.

careful ... that's a really slippery slope. If you're certain you'll get your patent then fine. If there's a chance it'll be rejected then watch out cuz a lil tweaking could allow someone else to get the patent for the reasons you got rejected....it's happend before and will again.

Damn Gzire, how'd you get to be so smart?
I am being a sarcasstic a-hole!
I agree Jaylin ------> I am being a sarcasstic a-hole! BTW I've looked into this stuff before, but due to lack of time/dedication/knowhow/funding I've never gone down the path of getting a patent

Hey guys, I appreciate the nice wishes. Thank you.
I understand how the patent process works, I still have one pending for "Vertibrake".
When I thought of "Vertibrake", I knew that I would be incubating and nurturing the product from concept to prototype to production.
But this is something different, I just want to pitch my idea to this megacorporation. I guess I'm looking for suggestions on how to present them with another avenue that they are unaware of .
Knowing the uspt.gov site all too well. I've done an extensive search on my idea. So far I have found the patented product that is already owned by this specific company. I also found similar products as well, however, the other products listed on the uspt site were nothing like my concept.
I haven't had any time today to contact my patent lawyer. Hopefully if work is not hectic as it was today, I will ask him to run a thorough search.
But if any of you ever experienced my situation, or know of anyone that has gone through my situation, please give me any kind of suggestion. I look forward to hearing all hit or miss stories.
Thanks again.
