Default Need some advice on good Trucks to buy

I'm looking to buy a used 4x4 truck and was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on a good type of truck to get.

I've been scanning the local want-ads for private owners selling trucks in the past week, but there's soo many out there and I've never owned a truck before.

Obviously, i'd want to buy one that's never been used for plowing before...but what's some other things to look for on a truck when checking it out(other than the typical stuff that you'd look at on a car......and obviously making sure the 4WD works)?

I want to get at least a 6-cylinder truck, but probably won't need an 8 cylinder, unless i find a good deal on one.

What are some good ones to look at for mid to late 90's trucks that won't cost me more than $6000?

watch out for the chevy 1500. the 93 chevy we bought 3 years ago for 6000 has lots of electrical problems. since you are looking at newer models, i'm not sure when they fixed those problems. just do your research if you think you might get a chevy.

as far as the engine and the transmission, bother are real good and heavy duty. ours isn't a 4WD either.

gl on finding a truck.

Do Ford Rangers suck? I don't like Fords...but they seem to be really cheaply priced. I can only assume that their trucks suck as bad as their cars do. Am I right?

I don't have any personal experience with the Rangers but the only time I've ever see one is either in the bay at a dealership or pepboys getting worked on

Stay away from the Ford Rangers. If you are looking for a smaller truck, go with a Dodge or a Toyota, they will definitely take a beating and keep on going.
