That's not necessarily true. When I was in Dubai, I frequently saw two dudes walking around holding hands and being pretty touchy-feely w/ each other. The explanation I got was that women were for procreating, men were for fun. I don't know how true that is but the dudes seemed to be pretty comfortable w/ each other.

Well unfortunately/fortunately the truth behind this rumor probably won't come out. While it might be acceptable in a less traditional muslim culture like Dubai, I think the situation would be radically different in the other traditional muslim cultures of the middle east (Iran, Iraq, and even Saudi Arabia). Regardless of it being true or not, Arafat would not be able to take the chance that he'd alienate his other supporters.
