VQ - are you going to be able to enable searching the pre-conversion site content at some point? I'm not sue I ever saw a definitive answer to that question. Alternatively, can you set the ability to look up member posts (thru their profile page) without having to scroll thru pages one-by-one? Ability to enter directly into a page number field would make searching old info a lot easier if you can remember the poster. I sure hope this info isn't lost, I really want to look up some info I know is there. Thanks!
kloh - it seems to search back only as far back as mid Sept '04, which I'm assuming was about the time of the new site switchover... although it does seem earlier threads are returned if someone has edited them since the switch. The real hassle is, I remember exactly what threads of mine contain info I want to reference - unfortunately the Goto page function at the bottom of each forum goes back only to post-switch. Clicking on a member name takes you their profile page and a link to select View All Posts By Member. It does appear that all their previous posts seem to have been archived and are assessible, but (and it's a really BIG but), you have to scroll thru page-by-page. I.e., if I recall a post of mine I want to review, and remember it was somewhere in the middle of my post count, I would have to open 40+ pages just to get to the point where I can start scrolling thru all posts on each page to locate what I'm after. Not good, that would take longer than it took to write 'em!
Hasn't anyone else noticed this? I guesstimate a good 90-95% of total site content is unable to be accessed by the search function.
I know what you're talking about dholly.
For instance, when I was searching for my how to beat a ticket thread, the search function only found any after the site upgrade. Since the site still remembers everything and all that I posted under my profile, the page will list all my posts, however, the "middle pages" arent very accesible. ie.
1,2,3,4......56, 57, last.
But I do know what you're talking about.
