Pretty interesting Ru. The young guys were chopping some crazy time off their runs. No other runs or tuning and I think something like one and 1/4 seconds between 1st and 3rd runs.
There is some fun to be had with the larger displacement cars.

Yeah, great find Ru! They went from 207 to 322 hp. Here's the results:
1st race: both drivers red lighted but the older guy won (by red lighting second and on the track). The 1/4 time was 14.19 sec at 104.81 mph.
2nd race: young kid had a 13.40 at 103.8 mph and the old guy had a 14.34 at 94.2 mph (the old guy was screwing around with trying to shift manually with an AT)
3rd race: young kid had a 13.29 at 104.9 mph and the old guy had a 13.95 at 97.0 mph.
They should have used identical cars and had a professional driver run them both so that they could test the car's performance instead ot the driver's abilities (especially since the one older guy was probably 90 pounds more than the skinny kid). Great show though. That red IROC brings back memories!!!!
Hrm ... I actually ended up missing this episode but the episode on the 67 Beetle was pretty good. They took out the 40hp stock engines and replaced it with new 160hp engines. They were running like 13-14 second quarter miles.
Back in the day........bugs were big here along with Corollas. Those cars are so light that minimal increases in horsepower made huge gains in the 1/4. I had a friend who had done some work on his Corolla and against a Camaro or Mustang, they'd get him off the line, but couldn't pull away. It'd be a 1 car gap until they had to shut it down. Pretty good when they've got that huge of a hp advantage.
