So this morning I'm on my way to work and all of a sudden I hear this crazy beeping and didn't know what the hell it was. I was looking all over then realized it was my x50 going off in tones I never heard before. Turns out it is displaying LASER. Holy crap never heard the noises that this was making before, sounded like something, something bad was happening.
Anyway, I didn't get a ticket because I wasn't going fast enough. I was driving along in a turn lane getting ready to make a right turn. Just didn't think anyone was using LASER from what I've been told in my area. I guess someone got an early Christmas present.
Great something else to look out for now.

Some of the State Troopers here have been testing the LIDAR guns (laser guns). Those bastards sit on top of the over passes and then radio your speed into one of the 5 cop cars sitting around the next bend. The first time it happened to me it scared the shit out of me because my damn detector just went crazy.

The real assholes are the guys that shoot you in the back. Sit out on a ramp and wait for you to pass. There is absolutely no way to see them until you pass their position, then the shoot you in the ass with the laser.

i've gotten painted by lasers a couple of times already. the first time i got it while i was driving like 55-60mph; the damn cop stayed on me for atleast 1/2 a mile until i got off the fwy. i got painted 3 times on my way to jgtc on sat, i was hitting around 80 or so. once my solo went off i slowed down and changed lanes and it was gone, but once i changed back to the fast lane he was on me again. i couldn't tell if it was just gliching or if the cop was just concentrating on the fast lane.

I always try to check the on ramps as I'm going by to see if I can see anyone up there. When I lived in Florida they used to do this with radar in the Orlando area. Or in another area of Florida they used to clock you from the air plane and radio your speed down to the half dozen officers blocking traffic ahead. Now that is a sneaky bastard.
Supposedly with the x50 it can read LIDAR from behind but still probably to late if they have you tracked.
Jaylin, yeah that was like the craziest noise I ever heard. I immediately though it was coming from the car and not the radar detector, especially since I had the detector on dim, and I was driving into the sunlight I really could not see the display.

i'm not in south florida, but i've seen where they get a ways back behind merging traffic and clock ppl merging in. the merging traffic is usually going around 10 mph faster than the traffic on the main road because they are just getting off a highway.

I highly doubt you were painted by laser. I'm not aware of CHP in SoCal. using laser on the freeway. Also, most laser guns are for stationary use only. It's very possible you were reading false from particular LED tail light emission from another car. I get this all the time.
hmmm i think u may be right clint. 'cuz each time i got the reading i could never find the cop. btw, is there a specific car that it gets the reading from or is it just any car with the LED lights?

If you check Escort's site ... I'm sure they've got a list of vehicles that will *usually* set off the Laser warning. Has to do w. the specific LED they used and the particular lense cover in combination with being in approx. the right distance that's set it off 90% of the time. The combination is such that the emittion is very close to the spectrum Popo's laser operated on.
I know for the V1 ... Chevy Blazer and Infiniti FX45 will often set it off. LMAO ... an Infiniti! Get that thing outta my way ... j/k!
