I just switched yesterday and the port hasn't completed yet. Just wondering how long some of you guys had to wait for the process to be complete. I asked at the store where I bought and they said it would take only 2-4 hours but then other places told me days. The FCC website said there isn't an enforced time frame but the industry agreed standard is about 2.5 hours.
Ru, let me know how your Cingular service is. I want to switch to Cingular just for the new Razor V30 cell phone! hehe I currently have Verizon and need a new phone bad...but they say I have to wait till the upgrade period or pay the outrageous amounts for a new cell phone.
Well ... I can send outgoing calls but no incoming calls b/c the port isn't complete. Its enough for me to see their service area around me. So far so good. Haven't seen less than 4 bars out of 5 between Cherry Hill (near philly) and New Brunswick (mid jersey). The customer service from Cingular isn't the best I've had. Their wait times are rediculously long at times and non-existent at other times. The plans aren't priced incredibly well but the roll over minutes are a nice touch.
From what I've been told over the past few days is get the Motorola V551 over the Razr V3. The V3 I've been told is purely show. The V551 has better abilities for less than half the price. Once I get fully ported I'll report back about the other features of my phone (MMS, EDGE, and whatever else I find in this manual)
that doesn't make sense why on earth would it take that long? Porting only takes 6 hrs max...assuming ALL your info are entered correctly. If not then maybe 3 days or so but 5 is ridiculous! However, it's normally for Verizon to be a bitch about porting numbers out to Cingular! LOL.
Hey remember I use to work the wireless industry for 5 yrs....listen to me...get the motorola V551 - it's definitely a better phone. Call Cingular Customer service back and demand that they do something to speed it up.. It CAN be done. I use to work the dept that have to push all this sort of crap through... there's always a way but you gotta be persistent! lol. Good luck.

Oh ... and I switched from Nextel to Cingular
I've ported (or had ported) about 40 numbers between carriers, and a few hundred from one phone to another with the same carrier.
From one phone to another, with the same carrier, it takes 10 minutes. When going from one carrier to another, it usually takes a few days. If any of the exchange information is wrong though it take a few weeks to get everything straightened out - I had one number take a month because the salesman wrote the name down incorrectly, and the correction missed the first order somehow.
You ever go to the White Castle in Cherry Hill? I miss White Castle; I might have to move away from California again. But then I'd just miss In 'N Out Burger. *sigh*

princess - I did get the V551. Almost got the Razr then I realized I'm broke enough already so a $500 phone is a bit too much. They said my number is in conflict and monday it will be done. I like how I've used about 120 minutes since getting the phone all with customer service. They're giving me my minutes back atleast.
Randy - a month ... don't scare me like that. It's been 3 days without being able to receive calls ... if I go longer than Monday I'm gonna flip.
Chenga - There is no White Castle in Cherry Hill. Never was. The entire thing was filmed in Cinnaminson. The only White Castle near Cherry Hill is in Pennsauken and I heard they closed it recently. I still got one near me at school atleast.
Boo....make them give you more mins... giving you back what you used aint good enough...ask for credit...but be extra sweet "with cherries on top" and they will do it for you
White Castle! LOL... I never knew what that was til I was in IL... I asked for In N Out or Jack In the Box and they looked at me all confused! Then I found out they don't have them there... so I went to White Castle... quite different! I've never really seen a buger so tiny! LOL.
yah I took one bite and I was done! The whole box was greased up! gross. NO wonder they call them "sliders" Slides in your mouth and out your ass.... little grease ball!
