Man I just saw Snoop on a britney spear's video. I will never again respect that fake ass Gansta wanna no talent having fake beotch. I hope Suge Knight kicks his ass.
Seems like once an artist makes it or transcends markets they catch all this selling out crap. Really, what is selling out? Jay Z doesn't put out the music that he wants to make. From his own mouth he has said he has to dumb down his records for mass appeal and sales and he is considered one of the greatest. Is that selling out? Is it selling out to get in the game with the whole purpose of trying to make as much cash as possible?
Money is what makes the world go round. IMO these guys are the tru P.I.M.P.S OF the ultimate game. Think about it. A lot of these cats don't have high school let alone college degrees, come from poverty (this can be debated amongst some) and still manage to make a sh!t load more money than the rest of the population. Yet we call them sell outs because their style changes (along with the times) to pursue this goal.
The Roots for instance,(great rap BAND, check them out if haven't) get great reviews from the media critics but don't really have any commercial presence or insane riches like others (cough, Dr. cough Dre cough). Does that mean they haven't sold out? Or does that mean they just have different goals with their musical career. Does a rap artist have to maintain his hood frame of mind living in the Hamptons 10 years later in order to maintain his status of keeping it real?
OK 1st of all rapping about poping caps and then going on a Britney video is selling out. What Britney and Snoop is going to start hanging out in his 64 and start puffing blunts? Also, Jl you're from Colorado and I don't know how it is over there, but I grew up in DC, while crack and gangs were going on, and lived in Newark NJ and I saw the things Snoop raps about and claims to do. I can't see any of my boys from back then bumping Britney spears. Get my point? That's selling out.
I see the point of that and agree with the fact that none of those cats are bumping Britney Spears but Snoop hasn't exactly been living in the ghetto for well over a decade now. He isn't the same person he was when he first came out on the Deep Cover soundtrack with Dre talking bout "187 on an undercover cop".
I served 1.5 years for drug and drug distribution charges. One of my best friends is is serving life plus 24 for homicide. Now, 6 years later, I sell real estate and mortgage loans. Does that mean I sold out or have I just changed with the times keeping my ultimate goal of making money in mind?
Wait, so when he makes a video with Britney Spears, he's selling out, but when he makes a multi-million-dollar video of his own, with a cast of hundreds, a top-tier director, an army of choreographers, costumers, makeup artists, etc, he's not selling out?
Or maybe when he is driven to his billion-dollar palace in one of his H2s with diamond seats, perhaps that's selling out?
He makes a fantastic amount of money being an mass-media entertainer, therefore he has sold out. And there's nothing wrong with that.
