Anyhow...good news for you...ATT is trying to get rid of all their phones..so you might be able to bargin for a new phone or an upgrade.

And FF... Eldy's right V505 is pretty good. And so are the Samsungs. And some of the Nokias too. Did I answer your question? I think you lost me. []

And Eldy...keep your phone...I have no idea how you got all those promo but man you got hooked up...you won't find anyone to match what you have!!! lucky ass. Those promo are deleted out of the system even I can't override them for myself! []

Ok, here's one for the reps - What's the downside, if any, of purchasing a phone and service thru an internet vendor, i.e., WireFly, 1-800-CELL-PHONE, etc.? The service plans are all the same price for the same plan regardless of where you sign up it seems, but the phone and hardware deals are often much better than those offered thru my local service provider store. If I have problems with hardware bought off the internet, can I take it to the service center in the local Cingular store for repair without a hassle?

it depends if those internet vendor are RESELLER or INDIRECT DEALERS. If they are Indirect...you're okay cuz you're still activating under Cingular or whatever the serivice provider is. Normally these are Big Indirect Vendors therefore the commision percentage is higher the cost of the phone they buy are cheaper per unit thus you get a better deal. There is normally a 2nd contract involved. Because the dealers don't get commission unless you stay for at least 6 months...they will make you sign a contract saying you will not cancel for 6 months or else they will charge you so an so price...Plus you have the regular contract with the provider as well.

Now if it's a RESELLER...you don't wanna really do it. Cuz they basically buy the service in a large bulk and resell them back out under their name and bill but the number technically belong to us. For example...Company X buys 100,000 lines from Cingular...they now resell those services back out. The plans will be very similar to Cingulars..and phones are Cingular phones...However, they set their own price. when you run into trouble and call customer care...you'll get Cingular but they can't help you cuz you're really not in their system...you're with Company X....so you get transfer around... it's a bitch when it comes to customer service. I never remcommend buying service from a reseller. And you cannot take to the phone to any cinglar store..you must ship it back to the original point of sales the Company X.

The best is to go thur the direct stores themseleves or Indirect dealers...like the kiosi in the malls and stuff. Mobile Solutions etcs....

By the way I just looked into that V551...a friend of mines is gonna hook it up for me for $150 but that's cuz I"m not signing up any contracts with them- just buying the equipment straight out (it's unlocked so it'll work with my att sim). Thanks for the picture- Iwas just gonna search for it.

I've had Verizon service for years, but now it's all about the data, baby. VZ has released EV-DO in my hometown and from what I hear it seems to cover the majority of the area with good coverage. I would love a Motorola MPx, but who knows how long until VZ releases a PDA phone with EV-DO here in the States, let alone a smaller market.

Since I am in a 't-zone', I have been considering buying one of the new MDA III (Mobile Digital Assitant III) phones unveiled this month. It's based on the PocketPC platform, with slide-down QWERTY keypad and 802.11b Wi-Fi support. It's supposed to run Windows Mobile 2003 for PocketPC Phone Edition and T-Mobile says it will provide Blackberry push email compatibility in Q4. Pretty neat, and the one-price, unlimited internet data transfer plans are definitely attractive, but slower data than EV-DO.

Here's something that has really got me thinking about the possibility of the best of both worlds. There happens to be a Korean (Chinese?) version of the MDA III that supports EV-DO. You can find it on Ebay. If I got the Asian verzion, in theory I could get VZ wireless broadband everywhere in my town (and other EV-DO enabled cities, i.e., NYC, etc.), assuming I could get VZ to activate and bill a phone they didn't sell. In the past VZ has been open to 'foreign' phones being activated on their network, but in recent months I hear VZW has tightened up things a lot, apparently because of E911 compliance worries. Is that possible? Whaddaya think?

yah I just heard about this on the news...it'll still take them a long time...we already got the GSM and most of Edge built!
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

I already have this service... . I've had cingular for years and was going to get the wireless data for my laptop but the connect was slloooow. The cdma1xEVDO card that I have is near broadband speeds. It is consistent with 300+k compared to cingulars 100k and it bursts up to 1mbps. Its the same monthly price too. 79 bucks. If cingular gets a better wireless service Ill pay the 150 disconnect fee and use cingular/att for my wireless too.

edit: also it drops to the GPRS speeds when a broadband signal is not in reach.

I got the LG VX 7000 with Verizon. No complaints so far. Only 1 thing bothers me with the phone is that it doesnt show the damn time when you are on the phone.

dholly : I don't know much about Verizon...you're better off asking G35. He got Verizon. All I know is that Verizon only have CDMA services... they will be no where close to GSM, EDGE, or UTMS. Vondefone owns most of Verizon stock and they were willing to drop Verizon to try and acquire AT&T...but was outbid by Cingular at the last minute! That tells you what you should expect from Cingular later on.

Aurrea... Just wait a bit...and see how it works out in your area. They're still trying to integrate the sites together both ATT & Cingular. Cingular was slow before because they do not have EDGE technology...that was only owned by ATT but now that they merged... you can expect to have the strongest and best network out there.

Just bought a phone today as a regular customer since I'm quitting I have to give up my unlimited plan that I've been on for free for the past 4 yrs!

Anyhow it's a Motorola V505...same as a V551 just without the video stream. I got it for $99, I also got the Motorola bluetooth head set for $50. The guy tossed in a regular head set, and a car charger at no cost also Saved about $200. Seriously I went to 4 different stores to get this deal...well I had to kinda flirt my way to get it but oh well!
