Kind of slow isn't it? 19Kb or something ...

I just have a cell phone card in my laptop. The Sprint cards are 128K, the new Verizon cards are faster but don't work in many areas yet.

Wow... I could do that through my palm via IR w/ my phone, but it would cost way too much money since I dont have unlimited data service.

I just tried from my Blackberry. I can get to the site, but I got a rendering error when I tried to login.

I'll try again, if I remember, after I get a cell phone that does wi-fi

My company is hardcore about Websense and blocking sites. It's only a matter of time before this board will be blocked for me too. I bring my laptop to the office everyday but have no access to the internet with it. How can I use my cell as a modem? I have cingular... can I use it like an old school modem and dialup somewhere?

It's easy if you have Bluetooth on your phone and on your laptop. If you don't you may need to buy a cable to connect your phone to a serial port on your laptop.

Buy a little USB Bluetooth dongle... it plugs into a USB port and gives you Bluetooth capability. Install it and then follow the instructions on how to link your phone to the laptop. Then go to your provider's website and find out what settings are necessary to use your phone as a modem for your laptop.

It may be more involved than using a Palm Pilot because you have to go and install a lot more stuff whereas it's built-in on the handhelds. I haven't tested personally but the throughput is along the line of a 33.6kbit modem with 56kbit being theoretical max.

If your connection to 6mt is shot down you may be able to use a proxy to get to the site... I'd really use the cell phone as a last resort because of the incredible cost of data transfer; as high as $0.03 per kilobyte transferred on AT&T Wireless.

Damn, I didn't know it was that costly. I've tried several things to get around websense for other sites and its just not workin. The funny thing is I cannot get onto ANY OTHER message board. says "Blocked - Message boards/social clubs". 6MT works fine. Must be a sign...
