Default The economy!

Gas today costs about $1.85 a gallon for regular in Cumming, GA.

I remember back in 1979 when it broke $1.00 and the pumps only went up to 99.9 cents. It has almost doubled in twenty-five years!

Don't know exactly what regular is going for here, but premium (92 octane) is about $2.49.

I paid $2.49 last night. I still don't understand how gas prices are higher here in Vegas than in Hawaii. I try to vacation in Maui every other year or so and it always baffles me that gas is about the same or cheaper there. WTF?

Yep - that is pretty remarkable, most things double in price every 7 to 12 years.

The 1979 Corvette based for about $9,500 and the average family sedan was only around $5,000. Both are 5 times more expensive, and the gas to run them has only doubled.

Bread was 15 cents, now its over a dollar. Milk is only up 3 or 4 times since then. Of course people make a lot more these days.

Yep - electronics seem to be an exception, they get less expensive. Color TV's (CRT based) cost less than they did, computing power is far less expensive, digital camera's, networking, phones, ...

That's only 3% inflation, not bad.
Electronics get cheaper because they get more and more mass-produced. Also, the march of manufacturing technology makes the components cheaper. Neither of these are true of gas, it's been mass-produced for much longer than we're talking about and the manufacturing process isn't improving much.
