Default Need vacation ideas...

Hi, everyone.

I'm looking at taking a vacation this fall and am looking for ideas on where we could go. This would be a trip for my wife and I, we wouldn't take our son. We'd go for anywhere from 8-14 days, depending on where we go and what there is to do, and there is a minor budget limit.

Really, I'm just looking for ideas of places to go and things to see. Here are a few things I've thought up, to give an idea of what I'm looking for:

By the way, I love to fly, which is why most of the destinations are half a world away.

- Cruise, 7-12 days. We did an RC cruise last year and thoroughly enjoyed it - except we had our son with us and couldn't do many of the excursions or use much of the ship without prior planning and available babysitting.

- Istanbul, Turkey (and region). I've always wanted to see the crossroads between Europe and MidAsia. Istanbul would be a good starting place to see some of the world that has been in place for thousands of years.

- Amman, Jordan (and region). I've been to Amman (as those of you who have looked at my pics are aware), and I know that it's very cheap to visit - aside from airfare - and fairly safe. I'd go here to have my wife experience the MidEast in a relatively safe location and temperate climate. Plus, 5-star hotels for $100/night.

- Japan. Terribly expensive to visit, but I've never been to Asia before. I'd leave the cities and visit smaller locales to get a feel for how people really are in Japan; of course, a few days in Tokyo wouldn't hurt... Expensive, tho. Really expensive.

- Eastern Europe - Buda-Pest, Vienna, Czech Republic. Medeival History, old-style cities, shops, history visible at every corner. Still pretty inexpensive, too.

- Beach. Not sure where, but somewhere that would be protected from hurricanes (I'd go in October - maybe Aruba or Curacao - or Hawai'i). Somewhere to just relax and enjoy ourselves.

Other ideas?

Kal.

Vietnam!

I know it may sound far out, but a friend of mind has went back several times and can not get enough of the culture.

Very reasonable rates too.

I loved my RC cruise. But, I would look into Europe; Belguim, France, England, Germany, etc. If you want to go all out look into the Greek Isles. Good luck on your getaway.

Thailand is supposed to be a great destination. It is cheap, safe, and beautiful with some gorgeous beaches in the south and lots of culture throughout. I've been trying to talk my wife into going there sometime soon.

Australia and New Zealand are the top places that I would love to visit. It's just so damn far and expensive from the east coast. My wife and I plan to go there in ~2 years to celebrate our 10 year anniversary [cheers]

Aussieland is expensive as heck, but October would be spring out there.

The company I work for is trying to win business out there, if we do I'm going to get into the start-up group and go for free.

I'd heard about Thailand, might be a good place to kick back and relax while still getting a taste of a new culture. I've also heard Vietnam, but I don't know anyone who has been there. Understandably, I'm hesitant about going there.

I'm less interested in (Western) Europe, particularly in October. Just doesn't hold much attraction to me. I'd consider the Mediterranean coast, tho.

Where have you all gone on travel/vacation?

Kal.

Umm...Kalmairn...Maybe you might wanna visit singapore. From singapore its cheap you can take bus rides to malaysia and visit around there. And also take hoover boat rights to the philipiens where u can live like a king because of the horrible economy and exhange rate. Singapore there isn't a lot to do. Buts its a different culture...something new to experience. Do some research there are things near singapore that might suit ur needs.

There are a lot of great Mediterranean cruises around, especially if you're able to spend more than 7 days. www.vacationstogo.com is a very good site for searching available cruises in different parts of the world.

Heh, I had looked at taking an RC cruise out of Barcelona (I think). It's tough to get to Barcelona on American Airlines (my carrier of choice), but the cruise looked really good otherwise.

Good idea, I'll revisit.

Ok folks ... I think we're all forgetting THE number 1 vacation spot in all the world .... that's right ... the Jersey shore. You can't beat it's jelly fish-human ratio anywhere! Our sandy beaches are a unique mixture of limestone, budweiser bottles, and condom wrappers. The water is so clear you get almost 4 to 6 inches, not feet of water visibility! Need I say more? No go straight to your local grey hound and book a bus ride here!

I guess I know where to book my next vacation to. Free condom wrappers, what more could a guy ask for?

There is also an upscale train tour of the Canadian Rockies that is supposed to be awesome! October should probably be a good time for it if you don't mind cool temperatures. Lots of wildlife, mountains, and hosers.
