I live in Atlanta (well, north of Atlanta). It's nice, as long as you aren't in a car.
Priority 1 should be getting as close to your workplace as possible and covered parking. We have pretty intense heat and the occasional hailstorm that you don't want your car exposed to. Plus, commute times are going through the roof. If you can arrange to be close enough to use a bike, that would be best (I work out of my home).
Quite honestly, I'm a GA native and I'm planning to move away as soon as my wife's career will let her; neither of us likes the Atlanta area very much any more, as it's pretty well gone downhill in the last 10 years or so - quality of life is poor, because traffic is constantly bad. Going anywhere in north GA is an ordeal, where it used to be a nice drive.
If you have a family, Dunwoody and parts north are pretty nice and probably not as pricey as nicer areas of Miami.
