Default Theories on breaking in process of cars

I know there are two real sides to this... people who say beat them hard, and others (myself included) who say take it really easy to let everything set up.

I was just wondering what each peoples sides were... and how their experiences have been after they drove it hard or easy during break-in... service wise.

I am from the camp that you need to take it easy during break in. I saw entirely too many kids (at the honda shop) go out and beat on their cars during break in... and burn up the engines... not cheap engines... expensive prepped engines...

So... your thoughts?
