Changed Wheels on the Corolla
Yep. The second (of three) cars is a Toyota Corolla - it's the wife's car, safe, reliable, cheap to operate. I just took the 15x7 wheels with 205/50R15 Bridgestone RE730/RE750s on them off the Neon and put them on the Toyota - what a difference!
The Corolla used to scare me. The brakes are waaaaay overpowered for the stock tires, and even with the whopping 130HP/125ft-lbs it was able to make the tires squeal like b**ches. The tires would squeal in easy corners at speeds slower than SUVs typically take them, and in the rain the tires let go almost immediately. I had two near-misses in the Corolla in the rain, both times I just tapped the brakes and they let completely go - the second time, I could hear them spinning up, they were slipping so much.
Anyways. Enough railing on the tires. I decided to put the Neon wheels on the Corolla so it would be a lot safer. Now, the car actually grabs the road, doesn't squeal all the time. I was surprised how comfortable the car felt in hard driving with the new tires. The brakes are still overpowering the tires, but there is a lot more room and the car stops a heck of a lot more smoothly.
Great upgrade, and now I feel a little more comfortable with the wife driving this car.
