Default movie star Paul Walker really dead?

Is movie star Paul Walker (fast and furious) really dead or just a hoax?

I just saw it on the local news. He was a passenger in a Porsche that hit a tree and burst into flames.

Film crews were out here late summer on Pikes Peak for some scenes of the upcoming FF movie.
Darn shame to end so early in life. The area of the crash looks like an industrial park or something. Nothing for high speeds but possibly deserted on a Saturday.

Good info, thanks. Not sure why I feel so sad about this, but I do... more than normal. I have no attachment to anything he ever did. He just seemed like an alright guy. The Fast and the Furious movies didn't really appeal to me other than the fact that every car I've ever owned ends up being in them. I drove a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX back when the first FaF movie came out and that was one of the hot cars to mod up and rice out (no offense to anyone). The later movies moved away from the imports. Still, the G35 is a car that identifies with those movies. Mods, street racing, etc.

Porsche GT is a hell of a car. It'll definitely kill you if you let it get away from you. All cars that fast will kill you if you let them. It's a shame and a loss. And I'm sorry he was riding shotgun.

Does anyone have any opinions on what would cause it to burst into flames, or did that just happen after the impact and oil and gas spilled out?

↑↑↑ what he said. Im sure the fuel tank got rupterd and spewed all over the hot engine... preimium fuel doesnt need much for an ignition source. There is a video of a silver GT at a race track that hit a retainer wall on YouTube and did not appear that damaged (in comparison to Paul Walkers crash) and both occupants were dead upon arivial. I would think that the GT is just a weak structure, being targa/convertable so it prob would not take much to to incapacitate the driver and passanger. Exotic cars rely on light weight components to make them handle better therefore eleminating practical features used throughout the shell to protect occupents. Think about the Ryan Dunn porshe fatality accident years ago... almost same incedent with the same out come. Now compare other exotic car crashes and other occupants lived. I think porshe is kinda overated.

If you have ever seen a Lamborghni Quntache (← however the hell you spell it) tore down ready for paint you would laugh at their construction. The car looks as if it was home built with nasty gaps all through out the interior inner structure panels. I was flabourgasted at the shady construction and simplicity of the design of a original Lambo (not a kit Lambo). We have a very high end mechanic shop in town and years ago part of the building cought fire and damaged some high end cars. I personally did not help with the restoration but personally saw how lambos were constructed...WOW ... its a joke.

Can be a few factors that play into it making a somewhat normal crash become a chain of events that seemingly conspire to equal worst of outcomes ie: Black Swan theory/event.

1.The disproportionate role of high-profile, hard-to-predict, and rare events that are beyond the realm of normal expectations in history, science, finance, and technology

2.The non-computability of the probability of the consequential rare events using scientific methods (owing to the very nature of small probabilities)

- A different common thread I think of is the operator versus the equipment. Fast expensive skis, motorcycles, cars or even aircraft demand more from the driver, rider skier or pilot.
I believe this can create just the weak link or intice the operator to push beyond normal boundaries and enter a window risk that leaves thin or zero margins for error.

I've returned skis and made decisions of what mountain bike to get because I knew they'd get me into trouble or tempt me. I've known people who decided to back out of a car deal like a guy thinking the Corvette ZR1 would end him too early. He took it back the same day. I assume he hit a mark on the speedo that scared him.

(Not insinuating the above mentioned event was driver carelessness).

Absoulutly carelssness contributed to this accident...speed probably being the main factor. The GT resembles a air foil so at high speeds high pressure is built up under the car causing lift. I would bet the car got light in the controls and the inexpereinced driver over corrected causing loss of control. Im just speculating but yes be safe out there or just buy a pontiac Azteck.

I figured the story will come in about what they can reconstruct and it won't be loose wheel bolts. It really sux to have it land on one's driving mistake or a lack of responsible driving if that's what it comes down to.

Porsche should be quite interested in the details of how the car handled the impact to protect the occupants and what lead to the fire.
In the EU, car crashes are often met with car company forensic teams sometimes even beating the emergency crew in attempts to get meaningful crash related evidence before things are removed or changed.

Saw a pic of the crash.....read they needed dental records to identify the bodies. I hope they died on impact and not from burns.

RIP
