Puppies ?

HelllooooooOOo ... i was wondering if anyone was a breeder here or knows anyone that is. I am looking for a baby chihuahua i checked the internet and i have found some for good prices but they are to far away from me. I live in s.cali so i want a seller near me... i know this is random but hey doesnt hurt to ask

Be very very careful when looking for a chihuahua. My girlfriend and I got one from a pet store(big mistake) and come to find out a couple days later at the vet she had Hydrocephealus. Essentially it is water on the brain and can cause anything from mild retardation to severe seziures(spelling???) One thing for sure is that the dog will not live as long compared to healthy ones. There is no cure either.

This disease has been bread into Chihuahuas more than any other dog. The main symptom is a bubbly or over pronounced forhead that makes this particular breed look cuter than healthier Chihuahuas

Go through a respected breeder no matter where you have to go. We had to drive about 4 hours to get our healthy puppy (we returned the sick dog to the store) Pricing should be anywhere from 500 and up (depending on purebred and if teacup). I would refer you to the breeder we ended up with but I'm in Colorado.

If you need any other info let me know as I did quite a bit of research with the first one. Lastly, you'll love your chihuahua they are a blast.

Are there breeders that will let you take the puppy to the vet to have them checked out before you buy it? It would be like having a used car checked out buy a mechanic before you buy it.

usually before the breeder sells the puppy they take it to a vet to have it cleared.. thanks for the tip jl9618

Another FYI a lot of breeders (only those dealing in purebreds) offer a warranty for a certain amount of time. They range anywhere from 30 days to a year. Try and find a breeder who will warranty for at least six months. These warranties are just like any other, they cover certain things and others they don't. The reason you want a longer warranty is for congenital defects that take a little while to appear as your puppy grows. If a breeder is willing to stand behind her dogs like that you should have a better judge of her character and her dogs health.

Check with the AKC or the local Chihuahua specialty club in your area. They can give you a list of reputable breeders. By all means, avoid pet shops and puppy mills!
