Gardiner,

The plaque at Chalmette, site of the Battle of New Orleans in 1814, list a "Company of Free Coloreds" in those serving in Andrew Jackson's command.

I do agree though that blacks were targeted by the gun ban folks. One of Clinton's things was "ban firearms in federal funded Housing Projects'. My mind pictures big city projects with mostly black people living in them.

1968 Gun Control Act of 1968 passed. Avowed anti-gun journalist Robert Sherrill frankly admitted that the Gun Control Act of 1968 was "passed not to control guns but to control Blacks." [R. Sherrill, The Saturday Night Special, p. 280 (1972).] (GMU CR LJ, p. 80) "The Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed not to control guns but to control blacks, and inasmuch as a majority of Congress did not want to do the former but were ashamed to show that their goal was the latter, the result was they did neither. Indeed, this law, the first gun-control law passed by Congress in thirty years, was one of the grand jokes of our time. First of all, bear in mind that it was not passed in one piece but was a combination of two laws. The original 1968 Act was passed to control handguns after the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., had been assassinated with a rifle. Then it was repealed and passed to include the control of rifles and shotguns after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy with a handgun…. The moralists of our federal legislature as well as sentimental editorial writers insist that the Act of 1968 was a kind of memorial to King and Robert Kennedy. If so, it was certainly a weird memorial, as can be seen not merely by the handgun/long-gun shellgame, but from the inapplicability of the law to their deaths." (The Saturday Night Special and Other Guns, Robert Sherrill, p. 280, 1972)

1988 Maryland Fifth "Saturday Night Special" economic handgun ban passes. Ban on "Saturday Night Specials," i.e. inexpensive handguns, passes.

1988 Illinois Poor citizens singled out for gun ban in Illinois. Starting in late 1988, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) and the Chicago Police Dept. (CPD) enacted and enforced an official policy, Operation Clean Sweep, which applied to all housing units owned and operated by the CHA. The purpose was the confiscation of firearms and illegal narcotics and consisted of warrantless searches and of a visitor exclusion policy severely limiting the right of CHA tenants to associate in their residences with family members and other guests, tenants had to sign in and out of the building, producing to the police or CHA officials photo Id. Relatives, including children and grandchildren, were not allowed to stay over, even on holidays. CHA tenants who objected or attempted to interfere with these warrantless searches were arrested. The ACLU filed a lawsuit seeking declaratory and injunctive relief on behalf of the CHA tenants against the enforcement of Operation Clean Sweep. The complaint was filed in the United Sates District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, on Dec. 16, 1988, as Case No. 88C10566 and is styled as Rose Summeries, et al. v. Chicago Housing Authority, et al. A consent decree was entered on Nov. 30, 1989 in which the CHA and CPD agreed to abide by certain standards and in which the scope and purposes of such "emergency housing inspections" were limited. (GMU, p. 9

1990 Virginia poor citizens singled out for gun ban in Virginia. U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia upheld a ban imposed by the Richmond Housing Authority on the possession of all firearms, whether operable or not, in public housing projects. The Richmond Tenants Organization had challenged the ban, arguing that such requirement had made the city's 14,000 public housing residents second-class citizens. [Richmond Tenants Org. v. Richmond Dev. & House. Auth., No. 3:90CV00576 (E.D.Va. Dec. 3, 1990).] (GMU, p. 97)

1994 President seeks to single out all poor citizens residing in federal housing for gun ban. The Clinton Administration introduced H.R. 3838 in 1994 to ban guns in federal public housing, but the House Banking Committee rejected it. Similar legislation was filed in 1994 in the Oregon and Washington state legislatures.

1995 Maine Poor citizens singled out for gun ban in Maine. Portland, ME, gun ban in public housing struck down on April 5, 1995.

And nObama is a socialist, so blacks will lose their guns to defend themselves if he gets elected.

I don't give Clinton credit for the budget surplus. It was Congress who kept bucking him that gets that credit. I do give Clinton credit for our terrible economy, though. Not NAFTA but giving secrets to China & making them a most favored trading partner.

Clinton, these Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae crooks, & our other CEOs that load up on bonuses & run companies bankrupt are results of something half a century earlier. I don't remember the McCarthy hearings about Communists in the entertainment & education fields, but do I remember Kruskhev banging his shoe on the table at the UN shouting, "We will bury you! We won't have to fire a shot, we will do it from the inside, you'll do it yourself."

10 years later, our country was involved in a war, protecting a fellow SEATO member against the aggression of a communist country. "If it feels good, Do it", became the slogan, who cares about the consequences. Free love & drugs were everywhere, who cares about the consequences? A lot of kids with money went to school getting draft defferments while protesting against their country & the war it was fighting. They were encouraged by the intellectuals & those in entertainment.

Then we had the consequences, a generation that wanted everything but morals & responsibility. Moms didn't want kids & pushed them off on grandparents. Dads didn't want the responsibility of supporting them even if their drug problem let them hold a job. Many had got their education & let others pay with their blood, why not let them keep paying. In the early '70s cash for a down payment & source of income were needed to get a mortgage. Well, that had to ease up, not many had the responsibility to save up a down payment.

Under the guise of discrimination & civil rights violations FDIC covered lending institutions were made to loosen their mortage laws. Our educated draft dodgers moved on up in many industries. They disdained the ones that cared about the companies & tried to do a good job. Just like they did those who loved & served their country. They brown nosed, lied & back stabbed their way up the ladder & did their best to hold the others back. If they actually had to design something, the let the vendor selling them the parts tell them what was needed. CYA, was the motto. We became a suing country with lawyers going after everything. New state of the art companies, like Atari, were moving overseas because of tax burden making it too expensive to operate in the US.

American industry, that once led the world was falling behind. Some draft dodgers are trying to educate the neglected single parent kids, that won't even behave in school. America's levels in math & science are dropping.

Our draft dodgers are getting to be CEOs of corporations & even President of the US. They are all on each others board of directors & vote each other big bonuses. "Golden Parachutes", is the code word. 401K plans have infused business with money, money for them to rob from employees & stockholders. Clinton signed a big banking regulation bill, which Rep canidate Sen McCain voted for. Now everybody was in the mortage business. Our draft dodgers didn't care, even making loans to those with prior foreclosures. They would bail with the money.

Clinton realy cozied to to China, rented out the Lincoln bedroom to one of them. That is not as bad as giving them tech secrets, allowing them access to atomic bomb plans, & making them a most favored nation. Now American companies are building state of the art plants in China shutting down old plants in the US. What is terrible is they are being dismantled & machinery sold to China for scrap iron.

Now our CEOs are even getting bonuses for running companies bankrupt. Them & the money are going overseas. Wonder why Huckabee, Rep primary canidate, made a campaign speech in the Cayman islands, Obama's big speeches in Europe, or Clinton's $8,000,000 bonus for bieng a director of a state owned Dubayi company? Why did Obama say he was for the UN gun ban treaty which would put the UN over our Constitution?

These people never planted crops, fed live stock, dug ditches, hammered nails, wove fabric, or ran a lathe. All they have handled is people & their money. They don't know America.

Well Kruskhev, you haven't buried us. Haven't brought us to our knees, but we're on our butts letting it happen. Make sure to VOTE.

God Bless the USA.

Well said drew. I might not have grown in the generation you speak of, but I do agree with a lot of the things you wrote. The problems we're suffering now has a lot to do with things that transpired years ago. Sure you can't very easily point a finger to one individual, but for years our politicians have allowed execs and "big business" to take advantage of the people. I mean ruin thousands of peoples' lives and rob them of their life savings and you're allowed to spend a few years in a cozy low security jail while your billions await you when you get out. How is that for punishment? While the rest of the us "little" people get 15 years for a few drug possessions... stuff like this makes me sick to my stomach.

240 "who gives a shit about guns"

The politicians do, they don't want us to have them. Are they afraid we'll get tired of their shit?

I think I gave a description of reality in the post above.

You might not need one now, but one day you might decide you need one. What if some day there was a knock on the door and you were being taken to an interment camp just because you were black.

It is fine if you choose not to have one, but when our government says you cannot that is a problem.

Zooms, what I really hate is the crooks counting on their "pardon".

In Romans or Corinthians it is written something like, But for the grace of God there be me." Glad I'm not one of them.

Everybody from my generation isn't like that. Some studied instead of serving, but many of them aren't crooks. But, I bet there is a common thread among the crooks.

Like 240 says, "reality". I gave my view of "reality". I'm sure you can tell from my spelling & grammar that I don't have much education. I had my chance with VA. It took me from 1976 to 2000 to get an Associate Degree. But, I value an education. I supported my wife when she wanted to go to college & become a teacher. I helped our 3 kids in their education. By your posts, I think you are educated & we need leaders to straighten this mess out.

I know 240 isn't going to vote my way. After the 911 thing at Columbia University, I didn't like Obama's thing on volunteers, I have volunteered several times in my life & don't want the Federal Gov taking this over. So I'm not voting for Obama. But 240 is going to Vote.

"outmanned but never outgunned" I'm hoping folks like you, 240, & me can take care of things with ballots & get our country back with the liberties & oportunities it was meant to have.

240, my comments coming on Bush tomorrow if thread is still going.
