So I have a 40 GB PS3, swapped out for 120GB, and I ran into some trouble yesterday. I was watching a Blu-ray movie and all of sudden the movie froze and the picture just went black. I had to shut off the PS3 from the back. After turning it back on again, the system boots up just fine, but the PS3 can't read any disc I load. So it wont recognize any blu-ray disc or PS3 game. I am gonna try to restore the entire system to wipe the slate clean and see what happens. But any other suggestions as to what I should do? I really dont wanna contact Sony and ship this thing over there for a couple of months for them to fix it. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

not sure what happened there. did you try googling it and seeing if you get any hits in playstation forums? maybe it has something to do with you swapping out the harddrive?

Yeah, I think i'll hit up those forums after this restore is done...its taking 7 hours! I don't think its the hardrive cause I swapped it out a couple of months ago and never had a problem. But i'll look into it. It is really strange though.
Yeah, like I said before, I don't think so since the PS3 loads up just fine and is able show my music, videos, and my PS3 demos on screen. It just might be the actual disc reader. I'll see whats happening as soon as this restore finishes....just 3 hours left!!
Sounds like the Blu-ray drive died, time to call up Sony if it's still under warranty.

It is still under warranty, so I just called Sony right now and they are gonna send me an empty box to ship it to them. Said if they can't fix it they will send me a brand new one. Sounds good to me! Should take about 2 weeks for the whole process, which is fine since I dont use it that much.
