Let me tell you this as an Asian-American that proudly served our country. I still got shit for being different, even though I was in uniform these fookfaced rednecks never really saw anything beyond my 'Chinky eyes'. This has been a reoccurring theme in my life ever since childhood. Black, White, Hispanic whatever the fuck they were, didn't matter, the universal insult without saying a word to me was the pose pulling back the eyes. It's basically calling a black man a nigger. I have grown to accept the ignorance of many Americans, as officers we're taught that haters can talk all the shit they want but we are the ones that defend their right to do that, it's America. But when I see shit like this it annoys me.

i guess i am so indifferent about it because as a white person, i've grown up dealing with every other race making their stereotypical jokes about white people without any social repercussions. you can't tell me you've seen a black, asian or hispanic comedian do a routine without hiking his pants up, talking in a high pitched voice and b*tching about something... immitating a white person. it's out there. IMO whites get as much thrown at them as they dish out. it never really bothered me, but at this point i really just don't care. i feel like we'd all get much further as people if we could all let things like this roll off our shoulders. any type of slur or stereotype (yes even the N word) are ONLY given power by those they are directed at. it may sound bad but if you have a stoic attitude about it, it becomes powerless. by making threads and heaving insults back at the "spics" you are only empowering the (possible) racists, lowering yourself to their level and proliferating the hate that you appear to detest so much.

First, I've seen stuff like this happen all throughout my life and here's my take on it.
Now don't go and be so damn sensitive about what I say either.
Most white Americans don't really know what it's like to the subject of racial or ethnic prejudice. Why? Because most Americans don't have a deep cultural or ethnic background. I hear it all the time... my dad is Russian... my granddad was German... etc., etc., etc. Sure they say this because they've been told by someone in their family, but the one true and clear fact is that they do not identify with these roots. Heck, they've probably never even had one true home cooked meal of their supposed ethnicity.
Yeah you say your parents were from Germany, England, etc., but how much do you identify with that part of your roots. To the vast majority of Americans it's almost none, especially if you're far removed from that part of your roots. Such as if there's a tragedy from where your grandparents are from, does it concern you? Do you have family still there that you know? Things like this plays a huge part on how you identify yourself with others.
You got blonde hair and blues eyes. You grandparents were from Germany. Do you get excited when Germany competes in a world event? Olympics? Most of those of you who said that ad doesn't do much probably don't have any connection to your roots other than that you know where your grandparents first came from. In truth, you hold no culture from that land and probably wouldn't even know what traditions that country/culture/ethicity practices. That's why most Americans have very little culture compared to that of the rest of world. The American culture is what...??? Outdoorsmen and BBQ? Sure there's a distinct American culture that's developed over the 2 1/2 centuries of our history, but there isn't one that's distinctly yours ethnically. Why? Because most likely your culture and ethnicity has been mixed and blended over the years and probably has been lost. Is that a bad thing? Of course not. It's what makes the US so special, but does that mean that you shouldn't sympathize with those who've come here later than you who might still hold close ties with their country/culture/tradions of origin? I would hope not. Your grandparents/parents obviously suffered through similar struggles.
So...
What I'm trying to say is this. It's quite difficult to offend an average white American when it comes to culture and ethnicity. That doesn't mean that other are the same. I'd think you'd show the same courtesy afforded by your forefathers.
I identify myself distinctly as a Korean-American. Am I patrotic? Am I an American? I should hope so. My decorated service to this nation supposedly proves it. Like many of you here, I'd be the first to step up to defend this nation, but... that doesn't mean that I don't hold the culture/traditions of my origins dear as well. Just because you don't feel or know what that's like, don't dismiss what I have.
Do I feel that ad is offensive? Sure I do. It wouldn't matter whom or what originated it. That's a universal sign that portrays prejudice, just because YOU don't happen to identify with it don't discount it for what it is. That's all I ask.

People (stereotyping) like to hear the bad in news not the good, so that's what the media reports, what's the lead stories on the news at night, murder, shooting, stabbing... The more it is played the more it stirs people up, the bigger the mess when the excrement hits the air circulater.
Kinda Like the Don Imus(sp?) situation, I do not know the extent of what Imus said (all I heard of is "nappy headed hoe")but I did hear that one of the "victims" of his comment had a press release saying she was emotionally scarred or some line of B.S. like that.
