CAR OF THE YEAR

Have you seen Motor Trends 2004 car of the year? Toyota Prius, what in the hell is going on? 76 hp and 0-60 in 9.8 seconds. What a rush when that electric motor kicks in. I wonder how many people are going to run down and trade their "G" in for this "CAR OF THE YEAR"

It's not competing with the G and it's not a sports car. 9.8 sec isn't that bad for people who don't care about speed; they probably won't even look at the number. I'm sure they'll explain better in the article, but I believe the Prius won because it's proof-of-concept for the next generation of cars. It's an amazing achievement--possibly even the most important innovation in car history. Now we know we can make hybrids work; power, speed, and sportiness will follow.

This is the first year that hybrids made a major push into the market. Combine that with the insanity in the middle east and the uncertainty of future oil production and it makes sense to declare a hybrid the CotY.

The CotY isn't necessarily the best performer or the coolest car. It's the most important or influencial. Personally, given that I would have thought one of Honda's hybrids to be a better choice but I don't pay much attention to those tree hugging cars.
