we are in a type of depression. history will mos def be the judge of that
alright, i realize i'm getting in to this about 3 weeks late here (from 6/10 post) and i've never posted here before (hell of a way to work in on the boards) but i'm seriously going to have to call major league BS on this. a type of depression? dude, this is an infiniti forum. people here drive infinitis. i find it hard to say we're in a 'depression' when you've been squeezed so hard, you're still driving a sweet ride. tough to swallow.
sure, the economy's tough right now but not for me. the market tanks, my 401(k) just buys more shares/dollar. think about it. shitty markets are awesome. now - once capital gains start getting eaten in to when a certain someone decides to raise the cap threshold to 39%, how sweet will that be? answer is, it won't. sure gas is expensive - so what, i go out less and walk more. double bonus.
oh yeah - Hauser's law. that should pretty much put an end to any argument claiming that Reagan/Bush tax cuts are the devil. it's pure, pure fairness. rich people typically work pretty G-damn hard for their money. let 'em keep it. taxing them more doesn't change revenue flow one bit - productivity however, does. tax them higher, drive down productivity, therefore reducing GDP. GDP decreases, therefore as do revenues.
oh yeah, whatup y'all. new to the boards. it's...spirited here. awwww yeah.
My buds from Texas tell me that it's legal to shoot anyone who's not a Texan in Texas.
and yes, it's legal to shoot non-Texans in Texas.
you have to prove that they were either a) rustling your cattle or b) intended on rustling your cattle, or c) intended on rustling cattle you don't own, but intended on owning at some point in the future.

What if you just intend to make some nice steaks and roasts out of the cattle...

In just the past week Barack Obama has changed his mind on several key issues. We just thought you might want to keep score.
* He was against granting immunity to telecom companies that aided our government in eavesdropping on telephone messages to and from known terrorist operatives overseas. Now he is for granting this immunity to the evil telecom corporations.
* Some time ago Obama said that he wholeheartedly supported the ban on the private ownership of guns in Washington DC. Then, after the Supreme Court came down with their ruling last week, suddenly Obama is a supporter of the people's right to keep and bear arms.
* Earlier this year Obama said that he was going to accept public financing of his presidential campaign after the convention. Now that he has seen he could get more money from private contributions than he would from public financing, he changed his mind.
* NAFTA? Barack was going to immediately renegotiate all of the evil NAFTA treaty. Now ... well, let's just say "not so much."
"Change we can believe in" turns out to be "I believe I'm going to change my mind."
Something VERY interesting I got from a friend of mine. I can't confirm the truth of this material, but maybe some of you out there can or prove it's false. Also, I want to say that I'm not posting this because I'm pro or con for any candidate. I just felt that info like this should be brought to light, even if it's to confirm or deny the validity of it. yes, a depression is how many nickles you have...and your potential to replenish those nickels as you spend them. none of us here have problems spending nickles. really, i doubt many of us here really have trouble making more nickels.
what, is a "depression" a general mood? as in, "man, the news these days is really depressing, and i'm feeling depressed. we must be in a depression. hey look - new motordyne exhaust!"

the thing that scares me is how much divergence there is between the two candidates with day 1 preparation.
case in point, Pres. Bush's cyber initiative. suffice it to say it's an issue close to my heart given where i work (DC-area "agency"). john mccain's been to the building on a regular basis (every few weeks ~ month) to be briefed on the ways/means of how we're going to tighten up the defense of our government and sensitive civil networks (pick your "Department of" - most included) from cyber attack from among others, the Chinese.
guess how many times O'Bama (Irish-ize his name and try not to laugh) has been over - NIL. that's right - he's been spinning up for day 1 like the US olympic men's basketball team in '04 (or the 1998 olympic hockey team - pick one). the problem i see is that he's more establishment than he's sold everyone to believe - he doesn't want the initiative to work, because it's Bush's. same thing applies to his preparation to be commander-in-chief on day 1 - he STILL refuses to go to iraq to spin up to take over the war (which he will have to). for lack of a better word, that's just careless. he doesn't care what's best other than toeing the party line. and believe me - this is some serious sh!t.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said: "That's why I think the best way forward is to adjust the cap on the payroll tax so that people like me pay a little bit more, and people in need are protected." He's also advocated "rolling back the Bush tax cuts on the top 1 percent of people who don't need it."
Nobody NEEDS more than say a million bucks, so why doesn't the government just tax everything above that at 100%? Hell, they are already getting about half anyway, so what's another half? I bet no one else would have to pay any income taxes.
Quote:
Instead of Tiger keeping 57 percent of his earnings and the government taking 43 percent, under the twin Obama tax proposals, Tiger's federal and California taxes would have amounted to 57 percent of his winnings, leaving Tiger with just 43 percent.
