you do realize that the democrats are opposing drilling in the US because of global warming, right?
we need to drill off of our coasts.
They will never drill off of FL. People come from all over the world to see the beaches - nobody wants nasty oil slick beaches like in TX.
I found it quite entertaining how McCain was trying to make like he cared for the environment by visiting the Everglades this week. Both candidates are full of it, IMO, no matter who wins we all lose.
I wonder why a country of this size can only produce 2 guys that no one is particularly excited about.
McCain is a no nonsense guy, I know what he stands for and believes in but he is getting a bit old to handle the stress on that job.
Obama wants to change but change what? What exactly is he going to change? How about the stupid tax code that is like an albatross around the neck of this country. Hell he's a Dem, he will want to raise taxes given a chance.
I guess I'd take a hard look at a 3rd party candidate but there never seems to be one that will create any threat to the 2 major parties.

I agree the 2 party thing isn't giving us a fair showing. 3rd party candidates are never really able to contend, plus you're brainwashed into doublethinking who your vote really counted for if you do vote 3rd party!!
It cracks we up though, to hear all this talk about McCain's age being a serious factor. I look at my own family and I have numerous relatives on my dad's side that lived beyond 100 and a bunch into their 90's. McCain may outlive Obama...who's to say?
i dont trust politicians , its essentially picking the lesser of two evils in a way. but i rather Obama and hillary on a ticket than mccain, bush or anything other repub president.
only repub i could see myself voting for if it happened is Powell.
I wonder why a country of this size can only produce 2 guys that no one is particularly excited about.
dont know what you are talking about but people are definitely excited abuot Obama. i was for Clinton then switched to Obama. now would like them to combine the ticket.
but obama brought many new people into this process. whether they were voting for him or against him by voting for Clinton. he's still the reason for that..
either way its historic. Clinton has recieved more votes than any one in history of the primary elections. Obama has gotten the nomination.
but i do feel the delegates need to go away. the popular vote is the most pure reflection of peoples voices for who they want to lead the country.
Dems bitched about the fact that Gore should have won since he got the popular vote even though Bush won the electoral college. well thats makes the Dem primary race no diffent.
she won the pop vote he won the delegates. the person with the pop vote should win the nomiation the next time around and from here on out
a lot of ppl are excited about obama but it seems like it's only because he is so different from bush... i haven't heard too many good arguments for obama... most of his supporters have the view that things are really bad now, and obama is the polar opposite of bush, so he's the best candidate. i like him, but he seems to be inexperienced and i'd never heard of him until recently... it's hard to say i trust him to run the nation. but mccain just seems to exude a lot of bush's unfavorable qualities...
ugh. not looking forward to this at all. i hate to not vote, but wtf?

I've already said that I don't have much to say about either candidate so I won't, but I'll write a bit about this "change" that all the damn candidates are always talking about.
Ever since, oh I don't know, time began I guess candidates have been talking about and promising change. First, my question is... what change are they referring to? Change to what? Has this ever really been clarified? They've been using "change" as a promise to base their campaign for decades and I wonder if we've ever seen any of this change they keep promising us. Since people tend to focus on the negatives of the status quo it's quite easy to promise change, but do people even know what change they desire? Or is it just always a change for change sake? I'll get off the soap box now, but I really hope that people know what change they'll get before they sign on the dotted line. I mean change can mean lots of things and they can be positive and just as easily negative.

I agree with the popular vote vs electoral vote issue... it's almost as if we really aren't voting anymore...
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think an ammendment to a popular vote for the Pres. is the only way to save our democracy. As it stands now, the majority of our citizens have pretty much given up their civic duty to participate in the "process". Their primary excuse has been, "my vote doesn't make a difference". Well if we change to a pop vote then, win or fail we'll only have ourselves to blame. After a certain period of loosing people may get off their asses to try to change things. Of course, there's that other issue of living in a nation of morons that actually wanted Bush in the WH, not once, but twice, but I guess that's an issue for another day and another thread.

IMO, he cheated both elections, and if he could get his way, he'd win a third and fourth too.
