God the trooper cut me a break because I was late for my graduation. Clocked me doing 106 the thing NEVER chirped... but let me drive past a grocery store or pharmacy and its all systems go. Worst 300 bucks I ever spent. Shoulda got the Valentine

You totally captured why I hate any kind of radar detector....they inevitably give a false sense of security to the user. I don't trust them, especially with instant on guns being used, and I sure would never want to become dependent on them.
IMHO, if you can learn to drive fast without them, you develop a sort of a sixth sense or hightened awareness about cops. I'd take that over a beep any day.
... i have the 6th sense, but the cops don't seem to get it!!
But truly, i have only gotten one speeding ticket after getting my radar & that's b'cuz that stankin' cop wasn't even using one, he was just snaking up behind me... i let him over... then he drops back gets behind me again & pulls me over!!

I have always said that you can't rely just on the detector. You need to be aware of the road up ahead and constantly be on the lookout for the po-po..
Sandman, did you get pinched with laser? If it is laser there is no detector that would have saved you if they flipped it on and tagged you directly. The only way that you will pick it up in time is if they tag a car ahead of you and your detector picks up the 'laser splash'. If the dector picks up laser your best bet is to brake quickly and change lanes as you do...
To avoid getting lasered you need a jammer and once you get hit the first time switch it off and do what I said above so when they hit you again they don't get a false reading a second time..
