OMG that movie is way too long. The movie for me started at 10:45 and i got out of there at 2:15. THe ending was like an hour long and it could have been about 20min long instead. Everyone in the movie was just waiting to get out of there, but the movie would just keep going on, its a good movie but after like 3 hours your ass and back go numb. My integra seats after the movie felt like i was sitting on a cloud. Good movie but they just didnt know how to end it. When you see it you will understand. []

I think the ending was long, but very appropriate. They didn't have to wrap everything up (they could have ended it after The Return Of The King), but I liked that they closed where they started.
Be glad they didn't tell the whole ending from the book--that would have been about 4.5 hours!
I hope to read the books over the holidays, but a friend told me that as well. He said the whole Return of the Kings book is pretty much the battle then the whole second half just carries on and on and on...much worse in the book basically than even the movie!

I don't really remember the books (I think I read them too young), but I've heard about the differences from other people.
That works out pretty well, though, because the movies can still surprise me.
I was disappointed with the ending; they left out a lot of the story that helps bring closing to some of the characters. I’m sure that will be added back into the extended version.
jtb, I don't think they'll put the scouring in the extended version, if that's what you mean. In the first 2, they just added a few minutes here and there, not entire hour-long plot segments. Also there are some scenes in the movie that wouldn't make sense if they included that material, and I doubt they filmed two separate endings.

I do hear though that P. Jackson is gonna put the fight scene where Sauruman dies which they left out of both movies in the extended version DVD.
