Default if you live in the Philly area....

I am FED UP with my current job (advertising sales for Idearc/Verizon) and looking for something new... but there isn't anything good out there that I can do that wouldn't bore me.

HELP!

Im in IT.

Philly is in the top 10 area for IT and top 5 area for Phamcueticals (sp). Have you consider doing sales for either, unlimited salary potential and your sales experience would benefit you greater than knowledge in IT of Pharmacueticals.

having the wrong sales job makes for a miserable time. I am on the hunt right now for a new job. I like being able to make more money by working harder/smarter but not have a good company that supports you blows.

Have you looked into the insurance field? Everyone needs home and auto insurance. There is alot to made in life/health too...

I fell into insurance sales after I was laid off from the mortgage company I worked for. I posted my resume and this company found me. They offered a pretty large base salary(for a sales position), they paid for all of my training and licenses, they payed for all of my expenses and mileage on my car. The only downside is that the comission structure and lead generation is geared more to an individual who has been in the insurance field for a while. I am looking for another company that can offer a bit more support for me.
Take a look at the field. You might have to weed through some garbage but you might find something you like with a good company.

if it was a good company, with good leaders - it would probably be a half decent field to be in... but all the bullshit is from the company and management....

and i know, i know... "every company is like that" but NO. this is different. just take my word for it. i LITERALLY had more freedom and room to think for myself in HIGH SCHOOL.

i'll check into it.
i've just kinda decided that my next job i want to do something that somewhat interests me. or something i agree with and that makes sense at least.

but even if it doesnt interest me immensly, a company that treats me well, with managers that know how to speak proper english, would be a good start.

Mike you have to approach a career search with objectives in mind.

Do you like the corp structure?

Do you like freedom?

How about comp structures?

You must have these questions answered before you start off in a search, because if you don't you'll end up with whatever sounds the best at the time, which usually ends up at a dead end.

Figure those things out first then take a methodical approach to finding a field that's right for you, then go on the hunt. Good luck.

i know... i am looking for something more short term (a few years).
down the road, i plan on being in meteorology.

i'd rather be HOMELESS than be in sales my entire life. (i am being serious.)
