I love my G, but my 53mpg metro is so sweet right now, especially with my commute - which is probably nothing compared to some of the LA-SD guys here...

i dont really mind them. i haven't noticed a difference out of pocket yet. then again, i am reimbursed for my mileage through work.

in all reality, we (the world) have GOT to reduce the amt of oil we're using. i'm pretty surprised it took this long for gas to get to almost $4 a gallon. it's been really high over in europe and asia for years.

gas is nasty right now. $4 a gallon for premium and my SuperSerengetiSandMettallicG burns that $hit like its going out of style. Not enough to slow me down though.. In fact, there is something about a freshly filled tank that makes me drive FASTER

+1 I remember being stationed in Germany in 1990 and gas was approximately $1 a liter...then I realized there was like 4-5 liters per gallon!

But seriously, we've done it to ourselves...and it will take more than $4 a gallon to really make Americans change their spending habits. I expect gas prices to get to $6 a gallon or more, before you really start to see a change in our habits as a whole country. Hopefully, by then, there will lots of new hybrid (or better) all electric vehicles out on the roads, however, I highly doubt since the automanufacturers are in bed with the oil industry.

But it doesnt have to be $4 a gallon here, i could be $1.50-$2.00 a gallon and the corporate junkies could still make a killing

Why buy a hybrid, pay a premium price to 'save' at the pump. Only if you drive 100K+ miles a year. Just get an non-hybrid econobox and you'll get similar or BETTER mileage and pay less money...resulting in real savings.

i think you're missing the point. oil is not renewable and it is not a sustainable option for the very near future. when gas is 'cheap', no one is concerned about developing alternative fuels/technologies. even if oil companies did cut profits and slash prices, we would go right back to our glutton ways and soon, supply and demand would take hold and we'd be right back to where we are today (probably worse).

remember the saturn and honda electric cars of the late 90's? if they wouldn't have been killed off by the oil companies, just think of the advances we'd have by now. 12 years is A LOT of time. our dependency on oil would be much less and in turn, gas prices would be no where near what they are now. but what happened? well gas prices dropped in the late 90's, no one cared about electric cars, we used a ton of gas, the Excursion and H1 flourished and look where we are now. lower gas prices are not the answer...

and neither is increased mpgs in cars... the oil companies will just adjust the prices to match consumption...one reason why it's so much more expensive in Europe...

this is true. if your main concern is cost, don't buy a prius - buy a yaris. it's about half the price and gets the same fuel economy. however, buying a hybrid does get you a tax credit, and knowing that you are investing in technology that will benefit everyone in the future.
