So I guess we don't have many hard core mixed drink lovers here. I want to find some new stuff to try out. Same 'ol drinks get old after a while. Usually, I just ask the bartender to mix something up that's new, but I figured I might get more info here.

MSB said Dr. Pepper is good. i want to try that one. umm check out a mixed drink website. i am not sure how it is in CA... but here, the liquor stores are all state owned and you can only buy liquor from the 'ABC Stores'... and all the abc stores have machines in them with ideas and recipes for mixed drinks. it's pretty cool. i guess.

^^^ The definition of a cocktail is a mixed drink fiddy.

Plus, why would you bring zero and Neft into this or any thread for that matter. You'll just jinx it. I can hear them coming now...

That's why I was referring to the new stuff. I'm very familiar with all the regular stuff. Usually, the best way to learn about new stuff is to ask a bartender (was hoping to have some stuff ready) or ask other people. Hence this thread.

I usually hate sweet drinks, but my wife makes a mojito that just kicks ass when it's hot outside. Gotten in trouble a few times that way!

Moj's are very good, but one thing I don't like about them is that you sometimes end up with mint leaves stuck in your teeth. I've seen some guys that didn't realize they had mint leaves stuck in their teeth and look stupid smiling at chics. Definitely a good cocktail though.

Well my favorite mixed drink is a double shot of McClelland Islay scotch over 1 ice cube mixed with the lip end of a glowing good cigar. YMMV.

Last one I had that was different, new and effective, was a mind eraser. Sip it with a straw.

Doing shots? One of my all time favorites is Surfer on Acid (aka Ecstasy).

Otherwise, SuperDDS got me into drinking Sapphire Tonics. Those are pretty good too.

Or you can always go classic. Gentleman Jack whiskey - neat.

Mc Islay scotch? Hmm... don't think I've ever tried that, so I must. Thanks for that tip.

gamma mind eraser is good, but it's a bit too fruity for me. I've had lots of fun with it though.

Ok, I'll have to put surfer on acid on the list too. I dunno if it's the same as X, because I've tried that before so I'll check next time.

Saphire tonics are my drink of choice, next to say anything with vodka in it. It's also the corporate drink of choice too. For some reason is a faux paus (sp?) to drink dark drinks at corp. events. So the Saph & tonic fits the bill not to mention they taste o sooo goood.

Yes, when I'm at a bar and want to throw down something I'll usually have a Glenlivit (prefer the 18 but the 15 years will suffice) neat. Or if that's not available I'll do the Macallan (pref. the 18 but the 12 years will do) on ice. If none of those I'll do the Chivas on ice with some tonic. A good gentleman always shoots for the good stuff eh?

I also like some nice cigars to go with my drink. I'll usually go with a Macanoodo if nothing better is available.

Good stuff guys. Keep em coming.

When I bartend and a guy asks me for a 'new' drink that is strong and not too sweet I usually just roll my eyes.
When I go out I usually drink
Saphire & Tonics (or Saphire & Redbull)
Beer
Jim Beam
Patron

some things you could try..
-there are a ton of flavored vodkas out there and you could try one of those with sprite or with club soda for a less sweet drink
-Bourbon & Diet
-quality tequila with a bit of triple sec and some fresh squeezed lime on the rocks
-Saphire with a splash of trip sec & cranberry juice
-dark rum & half club soda/half ginger ale
