The 7.5 billion light years away far eclipses the previous naked eye record of 2.5 million light years. One light year is 5.9 trillion miles.
"This is roughly halfway to the edge of the universe," Burrows said.
Before it exploded, the star was about 40 times bigger than our sun. The explosion vaporized any planet nearby, Gehrels said.
i can't comprehend that distance... also the fact that it exploded when the universe was half it's current age.......???
how do they figure that crap out and how do they know the "edge" of the universe? what's beyond the "edge"?

Some pile of rock really really really far away blew the f**k up. When it blew up it took a bunch of other sorry ass pieces of rock with it that we could give a leap'n f**k about.
Was that clear enough?

ahhh it all makes sense now... thanks zooms!!
but really... how do they know it's "half way to the edge of the universe"
and the star exploded when the universe was half it's current age.

well technically noone KNOWS anything 100%... but they have a good idea... or a good reason... i'm just curious as to how they came up with those figures.
you don't know there's a God, but you say there is.

They have a good idea?? You are basing this on...??

It's actually fairly difficult for most people to comprehend numbers over 1000. The math is easy enough, but if you ask the average person to estimate the amount of space 1000 cinder blocks would take up you'd probably just get a blank stare.

depends on your definition of "good"... they have a much better idea than you or i.
why are you against science and theorys? that's how you learn things... they build upon it.
if you can't comprehend something is it better to research it, try to learn (which scientist, doctors, etc have done succesfully on many occasions... cured diseases, etc) or if you don't know something, would you rather answer "god".

It's all based on data models supported by decent observable evidence. There are however lots of assumptions being made which is why it's all still just theory.

ok, but how would a data model show where the "end" is....?

i am not against science & theories, i am more against being force fed sh*t & just going along w/ it because it is status quo, & sadly you have been given a one sided perspective for as long as you can remember, so it becomes dogmatic truth to you (the whole issue of if you are told something enough times, you start to believe it (imagine what happens if you are taught one thing your whole scholastic life (this is the art of brainwashing)))!!
It's so ingrained into you that scientists are smarter than the average person (i guess in this case you & i (even though after testing it has been determined in official capacity that i possess a higher IQ than Einstein(sp) & i should be a visual mathematician, going so far as to create my own system of writing & art style, known as minimalistic black, etc.) that you automatically believe because they are scientists, they must know much more... you don't even question it yourself!!
They are no smarter than anyone, or have an inside track... they are just in a specialized field they devoted themselves to & are following that specific career path... how many dumb lawyers, pilots, managers, etc. you know... guess what, same rules apply!!
& that 'building on it' concept you stated, i have no argument w/ that... but when you build on something that is not sound & in fact so incorrect, you will never stumble onto correct... need to go back in the opposite direction, ya digg... just building bullsh*t on top of bullsh*t... that's why you cannot fathom or understand it... they don't understand it either!! It's been wrong from onset!!
As for research, i do alot of research, trust me kid... i do research you couldn't even imagine... to depths you haven't delved into or even imagined... i just won't go on presuppositions due to them being the 'norm'... & guess what, after years of intensive research (looking objectively)... my conclusion was that GOD & HIS Word makes perfect sense, then added that no one can find folly in it vs. the other religion (science, not operational mind you), that is constantly wrong, always in a state of re-write, outmoded, updated, etc.!!
i cast my lot w/ the constant, but to each their own... my fingers hurt from typing this much, i'm done!!
