*ATTN gun experts who have seen No Country For Old Men*
That shotgun that Javier Bardem's character carried around was crazy! Is there really a silencer like that for shotguns? Does/would it really sound like that?
Also, did they have automatic shotguns (non pump) like that back in 1980?
2) Haven't seen the movie, but there is no technical reason you couldn't fabricate a suppressor for a shotgun that I can think of.
3) The Auto Assualt 12 was developed in 1972, so conceivably there could have been production fully automatic shotguns in the 1980s.

Anton Chigurh: Call it.
Gas Station Proprietor: Call it?
Anton Chigurh: Yes.
Gas Station Proprietor: For what?
Anton Chigurh: Just call it.
Gas Station Proprietor: Well, we need to know what we're calling it for here.
Anton Chigurh: You need to call it. I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair.
Gas Station Proprietor: I didn't put nothin' up.
Anton Chigurh: Yes, you did. You've been putting it up your whole life you just didn't know it. You know what date is on this coin?
Gas Station Proprietor: No.
Anton Chigurh: 1958. It's been traveling twenty-two years to get here. And now it's here. And it's either heads or tails. And you have to say. Call it.
Not so much hollywood, as the media in general. Makes it sound more sinister.

it was good. I liked the ending (not what I expected). There was alot of subtle things that I really liked (scene lighting and settings, dialog, etc)..

Teleshot Silent Shotgun Shell
Cal 18.5x75mm
Length: Weight g
Manufacturer: Military Technologies, LIC
The Teleshot silent shotgun shell was developed by Military Technologies for use by special operations groups. The Imperial Navy Special Action Group (SAG) balked at the high cost of the ammunition and its 'low tech' design, prefering their modified gauss weapons. Miltech had already invested vast sums in tooling and production based on early Imperial interest. When that interest waned, Miltech sought out other intes\rested parties, and found a bilk buyer they required to pay back their investment. the main purchaser, the Solomani Security Directorate, was quick to see the potential in this ammunition, and now most production of is earmarked for SolSec.
The ammunition utilizes an internal, steel balloon to capture propellant gases, thus eliminating almost all sound and flash, while retaining all the deadlier aspects of the shotgun. Teleshot can be fired from any conventional 18.5mm shotgun, but will not cycle the action of gas operated weapons.
