yes true. but it makes my head hurt trying to make sense of it all (j/k)
but at the end of the day there are much more noteworthy to spend our time/money/thoughts/resources on trying to understand and solve.
like fixing the economy. keeping people in their jobs. finding TRUE happiness. discussions about space take up too much space in my day
I totally agree. We need to start fixing today so we can prepare for tomorrow. There are more pressing issues than trying to find ET or traveling to Mars right now. I'm not saying that we shouldn't try but I agree that fixing our day to day issues comes first.
How about the space between a woman's legs? That's pretty important to me.
Well I'd be more into a black hole between a girl's legs rather than space. If you could sail the USS Enterprise into her space god only knows who else has sailed in there.

why? and i'm asking in a serious way, out of curiousity...
just don't buy it?
i've recently thought it's very weird how many people have "bought into" religion... especially how skeptical everyone is nowadays....
I dont buy into it and dont believe in it. I know people that let it run their lives and thats just not for me. I got nothing out of it when I went to CCD and church. If it makes you happy, then I think thats great. It doesnt do anything for me. People thank God for everything all the time but I think its sad b/c people give credit to themselves less and less now-a-days. Why not chalk up your success to things you've accomplished instead of thanking God for everything hes given you a long the way??....like you had little to do with it.
3.5 - they figured out that most solar systems have a black hole..... and they found a big one in ours.. they are "watching" it.... great.
Did you mean every galaxy or solar system?
Carl Sagan wrote a good book called, "Contact" - they also made a movie about it. It was about communication with an alien race. It touched upon most everything that has already been discussed in this thread; religious implications, etc.
It's very probable with the number of potentially good planet candidates of star systems that there could be intelligent life somewhere else in the universe, as Carl Sagan said, "it would be arrogant for mankind to believe that we are the only intelligent life in the universe."
The only disadvantage is that it could be hundreds of thousands of years before intelligent life was discovered elsewhere simply due to the vast size of the universe itself.

I love how scientists are constantly updating and revising their known information about the universe almost on a monthly basis too. I mean, even the information about our own solar system has been updated a couple of times in the last 10 years (number of planets, pluto is no longer considered a planet, etc.) It's crazy.
My favorite line from Men In Black: "Fifteen hundred years ago everybody KNEW the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody KNEW the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow."

Didn't read the book, but saw the movie. Pretty neat concept how it ended. It all comes down to Faith again.
