Default Entry Level Bedroom Home Theater System

I am almost there...but I wonder if any Home Theater buffs might be able to tell me if I am missing something if I go this route.

Samsung 40 inch LCD 1080p TV - Model: LN-T4071 | SKU: 8454763
Monster HDMI Cables
Playstation 3
Extra wireless controller
PS3 Remote
maybe Harmon Kardon AV 147 Receiver (5.1 all I need or want in a bedroom)
maybe JBL 12 inch venue series subwoofer
not sure about the other 5 speakers

Well HOW DO, LC???? Long time no chat with. How've you been? How'd that book ever turn out??

As for the HT set up.....looks good to me....all that for a bedroom? Not sure how big the room is, 12 inch sub might be more than you need...get yourself a nice set of small speakers (Klispsh, Energy, for example) to round out a nice set up.

I'd skip the Monster Cable HDMI and order one online for a lot less. For a basic system, a regular HDMI cable will be fine, especially for a short run.

I'd throw an Xbox 360 in there also. Junk the JBL. I'd seriously think about getting a package system instead of trying to mix and match subs and the other speakers unless you know a real audiophile. TV itself is good enough, but you want to make sure the size is matched to the size of your room.

LC i love you....
Harman/Kardon is the best for the money.... JBL makes some great stuff too.. but i don't know anything about that sub.

take a look at some basic Infinity or JBL speakers...

and don't listen to GZ.... getting a HTIB is the WORST thing you could possibly do.

def agree with this... unless you have a very high-end system or a good "connection" with Monster.. it's not worth the money.....

... truth of the matter is, they are all the same cable, check out monoprice for HDMI cables @ the real price... not CC/BB uninformed consumer prices!!

I can't do a package deal. That is not negotiable. I can't stand the box o non-component audio bleah. I am a bit of an audiophile but mainly I've put together about 40K in simple home and car stereo systems (except maybe when I had someone saw through the chassis of that old audi and bridge some shit...

I've done no surround sound for the bedroom tho. I just keep thinking I've missed something...I start thinking about upconversion, 40W per channel is enough for bedroom, hdmi input/outputs and sound quality over power...next thing you know I just happen to have bought the wrong receiver or the wrong tv because I forgot some little detail.

There are really no good stores out here with a real handle on how to sell sound or tv or entertainment of any sort. They are not helpful. I was just thinking...maybe...someone on here happens to have put some stuff together and can check this out and see if there are any red flags.

how big is the room?
i'd say you are def on the right track with the reciever.... i own 2 H/Ks and would ot buy anything but. (unless i went to seperates)
i havent kept up with H/Ks latest... but i know that the 1 series usually lacks a few key things.....
i'd look at the differences of the 3xx and see if it is worth the money.

how is the room set up??
can you fit 4 bookshelves?

Wrote a draft of a first chapter of a page or two. It goes very slowly as a lot of other projects and work have been dragging me down lately. Not forever but I need to swing back and do some more writing here this winter if I am not too busy cowering over driving in the winter.

Yea, the sub is a bit over the top but I like 12s. Two tens in a car and the room is bigger than a car? Ok, a joke. I am mainly concerned there is some fatal flaw - maybe I just need a super nerdy audiophile to look over the actual specs.

I like the look of microspeakers but much of the time I suspect that all they do is sux. I don't want 4 and I don't want monstrous. I have seen some jbl, polk, klipsh - not as worried about the 50 watt-erz. and the center as I am the more expensive controlling parts. Anything that has power and a brain needs to play well together.

i looked at the Infinity's....
if you are really on a budget, but want good sound... listen to these:
Infinity Systems - Home Audio
they have MMD drivers.

if you can spend a little more... these have CMMD driver:
Infinity Systems - Home Audio
