The place I am considering purchasing this from will knock a couple of hundred off the tv and maybe a hundred off the receiver and something off of anything else and likely throw the cables in for free. They aren't going to sell me the ps3 or gadgets for the ps3 and a top end wireless router I am considering.

I've had some luck with Infinity in cars...the customer service was great too...now, most places around here don't sell them and I was hopin to buy most of the stuff in the same place which has led me to JBL and perhaps it leads me astray. Not sure - have a month before I'll likely pick this up.

do you have to buy everything all at once?

i don't know much about JBL.. but i know they make great speakers... in the end it's up to what your ears like... 2 different audiophiles will completely disagree on different speakers.
take a CD you know well... and listen to it on different speakers in the store.

by the way... Harman International owns:
Harman/Kardon
Mark Levinson
Lexicon
Madrigal
Infinity
JBL

and tons of others... a lot of the companies share technologies... for example... Logic 7 processing (which blows away PLII) used to only be available on Lexicon pre-amps that STARTED at $10,000 but it has been on H/K receivers for well over 5 years now.

It is an under my xmas tree item but I don't have to buy it all at once. I started looking last month in my spare moments but there have been few spare moments and I worry that I've missed something. I am pretty sure I will like this set up but very few places can switch up much on their walls of sound so that I could hear any or all of it or a blue ray disk. There is a lot out there!!!!!

P.S. Speaker wire is thinner than my veins...not used to going somewhere other than a high end store that already created the art in their head before you ever walked in and said I love you. This massed produced lifestyle is hard on my snobbery.

I miss my first out of college component system. Luxman receiver and cd player. 5 year warranty and sleek and sharp and never even wanted for an amp. Of course I suspect I'll come to love surround systems and my next one for the living room will be a frickin demon.

and don't listen to GZ.... getting a HTIB is the WORST thing you could possibly do.
She's putting this in her bedroom Mike. Why do you want to put major money into a bedroom 5.1 system? The stuff in there is not going to contribute to a nice clean sound right? Why not save the major bucks for the living room system?

i wouldn't put an HTIB system in a BATHROOM... let alone a bedroom.

the PS3 is fine. blu-ray is the right way.
XBox because there are some games that are dependent on console.......PS3 doesn't have all the good titles.

I know myself enough to say that sound in any system is a crucial element. The tv was 2600.00 last month but is around 1999.00 after serious negotiation...will be less probably after thanksgiving...the ps3 is 500.00 plus gadgetry. The sound is only a grand, seems pretty entry level to me.

Did I ever tell you, Kurt. I want that MOVE OVER emblem on my G. I just die every time I see it. I hate other drivers.

LC... i'm sure you know.. the speakers are the most important part of the audio system....
you can have a $3,000 receiver and $100 speakers... and you will get $100 sound.

GZ... size of a sub has nothing (ok, little) to do with loudness.
TYPICALLY they will perform better.. but that all depends...

but my point is.. there is no such thing as "overkill" with a audio system.
