I......GZ, if you're gonna pull on an Omega by all means get an Omega Planet Ocean. I had one for a short time before I flipped it, which I regret. It's the best Omega I've ever owned. Literally the best! If you don't like large sizes, I had the 45.5mm 2258.00 model, get the 42mm one.
I'm currently enamoured by this Richard Mille Automatic Felipe Massa. It's about $65k and I almost burnt my fingers at the AD (authorized dealer). it's the one you see him wearing after the races during the interviews. Man I love that watch, but it's so expensive I had to go home in tears. I can't sleep it's in my mind and my dreams. The walls are closing in.
The one issue I have with the Omegas are the lack of engraved bezels. I hate the potential for the bezel paint to become scratched and make the whole thing look crappy.
What are your thoughts on the automatic? How much accuracy does it have and do you think it's better to opt for ye olde standard battery op ones?
WTF $65k??!?!?!!!! Do you get a free hooker if you buy the watch?

automatics will never be as accurate as a quartz...period. i'm off by less a than minute a month...if that.
that said, i'd still take an automatic over a quartz. it holds it's value better and plus it's a work of art.

Well if you're specifically referring to Omega bezels, I tend to like them better than engraved ones. They are both replacable, of course, but Omegas use a bezel insert with the colors and markers on them. So, if you choose, or it get's scratched, you can just replace the bezel insert and not the entire bezel. Replacing the entire bezel can get expensive for Omegas.
I'm a fan of autos and don't own too many quartz time pieces. Of course, like super said, quartz is about the most accurate time piece you'll ever find. Other than Seiko Spring Drives, but that's another thread. I tend to like the complication, tradition and history behind autos compared to quartz's. If you get an auto that's been COSC certified, it'll run +/- 10 seconds per day. I've purchased $200 Seiko autos (non COSC certified) that run + 2 secs per day. Wooohooo! Some of my other Swiss pieces 25 times the cost don't do as good. Again, this is for another thread.
Yep, that Richard Mille Flipe Massa ed. is $65k retail. It's burning a hole in my head I want it so bad. I'm trying with every cell in my body not to pick it up. Also, that thing will go up in value as it's a limited ed and with Flipe fans out there it'll be a keeper if I should go mad and pull the trigger.

GZ, if you're looking into picking up a SMP (Seamaster Professional) make sure you pick up a '07 after produced models. They'll be about $300 to $400 more than the pre '07's, but make sure to get the post '07. Post '07's have Omega's new manufacture (totally in-house) co-axial movement as opposed to their old ETA based movements. It's far superior and most important it's a manufacture movement.
Manufacture movement = all components of the movement is designed and more than 80% all parts/components are built in-house. This makes for a more prestigious time piece.
I've owned pretty much every sport model Omega at one point or another, but go to your local AD and try out the PO (Planet Ocean) like Redherring said it's the best Omega. At least from what I've owned. Check out #2258.00 it's the one on bracelette, orange bezel, black face and orange numerals. It's the best Omega to date and I've seen them all, if not most.

^^^Cool Zooms.........the car is paid off, so Imma looking.
Best thing to do is visit your local AD and just start trying stuff on. We all have different wrist sizes so different stuff just doesn't fit like it does on othe r people. I have a 8 inch wrist so I tend to like the big stuff, but the only way to really get a good feel is to try them on.
Just be warned, you're now threading on dangerous terriorty. This stuff is like candy for men and once you get sucked in it'll take over your life man. I just ordered another "incoming" this past Friday. So I'll post up pics when it get's here. Yeah, you talking about watches got me my itch to start itching again.

SMP.......the "professional" part. Basically just the Seamaster line or is it an offshoot of the Seamaster line?
Also, I'm having trouble locating the 2258.00 model. Are we talking the 2208.50.00 model?
Yep, that's exactly the one. The Seamaster line is the sport/dive watch catagory for Omega. There is actually two different Seamaster lines, well three if you count the GMT models of the SMP. One is the SMP line you spoke of, the other is the GMT line and the last is the PO line (which is the newest of the three).
