Default test drove a g37

so as a couple of you know, i'm shopping for a new car right now (for reasons i will disclose at a later time). i went to my nearest infiniti dealer to take a look at the cars that they have at the moment. i am in the market for an 07 coupe (yes i know, coupe, only because I want to have been able to own both versions of the G35).

notice how i am not in the running for a new G sedan, and even less... the G37. i got to look at the G37 for the first time, and I actually got to test drive. these are my impressions:

1) the G37 is a great car to drive. it's a lot more fun than i anticipated. the handling is vastly improved over the previous generation of the coupe. not that the G35c has bad handling... but the G37 handles... wow. not to mention, the little extra power doesnt hurt.

2) the interior is gorgeous. it leaves no room to envy any of those supposed higher level makes (MB, BMW). i had seen the interior before in pictures and magazines, but it looks a lot better in person. pictures do the interior no justice.

now, that's a lot of high praise for the G37, but the main reason i wont look into it much, is because the exterior of the car is HIDEOUS.

3) The headlights are horrible. they're smaller and skinnier than those of the sedan (or at least that's the appearance they give off), and they do not look aggressive at all. it just looks like infiniti was attempting to join the success of the M lights and the G lights into one design. yuck

4) What is up with the bulging fenders??? the salesman was telling me how it makes the G37 look so much more aggressive. to me it just makes the car look like a bullfrog

5) have any of you guys seen the back of this thing???? geeezzzz, it's horrible. the magazine photos that I had previously seen of the G37 rear did not look that bad. but in person, the G37's rear is gross. the center of the rear bumper bulges out, and the corners of the rear are rounded off, instead of being sharp as the previous generation. lets not even begin to talk about the taillights... they resembled a lot the taillights of the new altima coupe .

all in all, the G37 was a very disappointing sight. i am sure a lot of people will like it, and buy it, but i dont find it appealing in the least bit.

I agree with you 100% smoke. The G37 is NOT very aesthetically (sp?) pleasing. I HATE, yes I said hate, the rear lights and the way the rear looks period. The headlights leave a lot to be desired too. Overall the lines definitely do not look more aggresive. It actually makes me glad that I just got the 06 and didn't wait. If anything I may look into the GT-R in 09-10.

yeah the skyline is definitedly tempting as hell, man. it's a bit pricey, I dont know if i'd pay $85k+ for the top of the line model, but the $55k model seems to be a good deal.

yeah well if you're going to start throwing in taxes and financing, everyone is paying close to $50k for our cars anyways... if you got them new, that is.

Smoke, WTFuck. You laugh in the face of SDSC. We are no longer friends. I think the only reason you won't get a new sedan or G37 is because it will be impossible to find a second MBC.

Supposedly the new G37 had people lined up to buy it before the official release date. All the potential buyers must have backed out or something because Infiniti is already promoting a lease deal on the Journey packaged 37. Sort of goes to tell you they must be projecting weak sales numbers if they're offering deals so quickly after an initial launch. Good for consumers though.
